Anthony (Tony) Ceniviva

As your council representative for the

City of Melville City Ward, I bring you information about council activities.

Current Issues :

CITY CENTRE VISION - BOORAGOON

Garden City Shopping Centre and the area around the Melville Civic Centre will change considerably within the next few years.

It is proposed to create a “MAIN STREET” running from Almondbury Road to Davy Street which will be the focus of social activities and will mean that the City, through its holding on the western side of the shopping centre, will be able to provide expanded community facilities which will make it a vibrant city centre and community hub for us all to enjoy.

The expansion will result in additional traffic. At present Marmion and Davy streets bear a large proportion of the traffic due to the no right turn restrictions at the corner of Almondbury Road and the Garden City Access Road next to the Cinemas. As your representative, I have been instrumental in the proposal to allow right turns at that corner, so that the traffic load is shared through all roads rather than the heavy burden at present placed on Marmion and Davy streets.

COMMUNITY PLANNING

Many residents have already taken part as members of FOCUS GROUPS to establish a long-term Community Plan for the City.

The Community Plan 2007-2017 will provide a blueprint for the development of Melville as a strong, inclusive community, providing services and facilities in accordance with the needs identified in the plan.

The process will be further developed to provide sub-plans for each locality which will give the residents of the City Ward an opportunity to facilitate means for the specific needs of the area.

LEACH HWY AND MURDOCH RAILWAY STATIONS

The new Southern Suburbs Railway and local train stations will bring many benefits to the CITY WARD. We need to support this means of transport and make less use of cars.

Upon completion, Melville will be partnering the TRAVELSMART Individual Marketing project with the Department of Planning and Infrastructure which will target households in surrounding areas to support public transport.

NEW FIONA STANLEY HOSPITAL .

The new hospital will provide essential medical services within a short distance.

It will be necessary to ensure that traffic can be accommodated adequately without undue congestion occurring in residential streets.

 MYAREE BUSINESS PRECINCT VISION PLAN

Final approval of Local Scheme Amendment No 47 will allow for additional precincts to create a vibrant, attractive and successful mixed business centre in Myaree.

The Vision Plan was devised in response to concerns raised by the Melville Ratepayers and Residents Association and the Chamber of Commerce.

OUR ENVIRONMENT

With the low rainfall many of our lakes are dry.

It will be necessary to put practices into place for our community to do its part to minimise the effects of global warming.

CLUBS AND SPORTING ORGANISATIONS

The City of Melville has changed one of its policies to help clubs and sporting groups financially. Under the revised Support for Sports Clubs Policy, fees have been reduced and the responsibility for insurance costs and the maintenance of clubrooms have been taken over by the Council.

The following are the major issues and strategic projects before the City:
