Matu during the flooding period in December 2000 (First day of HariRaya). In 1970's (even earlier ) and early 1980's Matu always had a flooding seasons especially at the end of the year. In fact I was born on 30th January 1963 at the high peak of flooding of that year. Because of this "BANJIR" season, all houses in Matu are 7 or 10 feet high from the ground. Why was Matu at that time always banjir(flooding)? One of the reasons could be due to poor drainage . After DEVELOPMENT arrived in Matu bringing good highway road and good drainage, banjir season now become the legend of the past. After more than 10 years, Matu was banjir again in December 2000.Due to heavy rain for 4 days, suddenly Matu experienced back the BANJIR. Luckily that BANJIR was not too bad, we can say 'BANJIR KILAT" OR flash flood. December 2000 brought back all the nostalgic memory of"banjir seasons " that happened more than a decade ago. My kids, Najib and Haziq were very happy playing in the "banjir" water. Even our small Hakeem was also excited to touch the banjir water under the house.
