| During the Great Earthquake, the church building of the original New Hope Village Church was destroyed and rendered useless. When Bruce Barnes returned to Mount Prospect, he found the church and was heartbroken, but not defeated. He went in search of a new church, and found one with a sizeable chapel and a large adjacent building. He went inside, and noticed something strange. It didn't look like a normal church, the Sunday School classrooms and Meeting Hall had been transforned, as if someone had come in and set up teh building specifically to be a safe house. It was dirty, as if it had been abandoned after it had been built, but was neat and fully furnished. While searching the rooms, he found a note that had ony "1 John 4:7-8" written on it. He headed for the chapel and searched Bible after Bible until he found one with a piece of paper inside at that very passage. There were several scriptures written on the paper, so he walked to the dining room and sat down to decipher the message. He pulled a pen from his shirt pocket and made noted by each passage as he read them in the Bible, noticing that certain words in each passage had been underlined. When he was done, he read over what he had wrote and new from the underlined parfts that this house had been made by believers for believers. He immediately set about inviting others to come and live and worship with him, |
