The story is what it should, just like the original Predator was. Hunters come to Earth to hunt, the humans got in the way, that simple. I thought everything fell into place real well. The heat signature attracts the humans since the alien needs hosts. Those shoulder blasters, once picked up, activate the release of the face huggers. The hunt went well. The ending was cool, with the queen going after the survivors. Everyone is saying they could have a sequel because of the last scene but I think they could make one up anyway if they really wanted to.
The visuals were excellent. The Predators and aliens were great. The sound and action was great. But as always I have a few things to nitpick:
The Humans: a necessity for the aliens to be born but that should have been it. The first half hour was nothing but the humans and the stupid explanation of who they are. I think they could have just had the first scene being the discovery of the heat signature and then skip ahead to the icebreaker scene where they could just point out each human character and explain why they are there. They all die so quickly anyway, who cares who they are.
The last Predator helps the last human: Why? Predators hunt humans as well. The Italian guy probably translated the glyphs wrong. The Predators probably enslaved the humans so they could build those pyramids and then used them as hosts for the aliens. Or maybe they did think of them as gods and did all that. Whatever the past was, the humans aren�t their slaves any more and don�t worship them either therefore the humans are their prey. I didn�t want to see them in the first place and then they go and make one survive to help the last Predator. I would have understood an Arnold type character lasting but not some survival guide who probably wasn�t needed in the first place.
The Predators roaring: I didn�t like this. The sound they gave the Predator in the first 2 movies were fine. Why did they did to add the sound effects from Jurassic Park? I found it annoying. Especially since they aren�t mammals and the noises were distinctly mammalian. I would have liked to see the Predators not relying so much and the cloaks and trying to be stealthy on their own.
So basically I liked the movie. I do have a question for whoever does come and read these reviews: Do the embryos the face huggers implant use the host�s DNA? Because the alien that burst out of the dead Predator�s chest had the same facial features as the Predator (ie: mandibles). I never knew this and now I want to read aliens versus the JLA or something like that to see if they get powers. Let me know if you know anything.
