Review of Freddy Vs. Jason

Review of Freddy Vs. Jason

I saw this movie close to a week ago. I really liked it. It didn't have the feel of a horror movie which is a really good thing. Majority of people, including myself, are turned off by the dumb run-from-the-monster type of movie. The monster is usually defeated in a simple way and I always ask, "Why didn't they try that already instead of running?". This movie is not like that. It had the elements of an action-adventure or even a comic book movie. The characters were true to their origins and nothing was added to cheapen them, like new abilities or something.

This was my kind of movie, if you didn't think that already. It was exactly how I would have done it. The story wasn't one where they just throw these guys in one place for no reason, there is a really good reason. The fight was well thought out and had purpose, unlike most crossover battles where the two meet and fight just because. The first fight was excellent and went exactly as I thought it would. The second differed from what I expected since I didn't factor in the kids.

The other actors played the usual parts that people play in the old horror movies: canon fodder. The pretty girls and boys were just there to give purpose to the monsters rampaging. If their wasn't stuff to kill, why would Jason be there? I hate when critics miss the point of movies entirely and say something like this is just a fanboy's dream come true. I say to them,"uh, yeah! what did you want it to be?". The goriness of the old movies didn't go through too much, which is good since it would have ruined some of the affect in my opinion. They had to make sure each character got equal time, just like a comic. And just like a comic, the was no definite winner. I won't say who comes out on top at the end, but both end up surviving.

Overall this movie was great. All the original material from the old movies was there but only to help remind the viewers what each guy can do. You don't have to had watched every nightmare or friday the 13th to understand what's going on. It was well writing for this kind of movie. The action sequences weren't so huge that it didn't make sense. I hope this becomes a trend where if a company owns more than own licensed character, then they have them in the same movie. It way lead to cheap copies that do exactly what I said this movie doesn't do. Oh well, you can't get everything right. If ever their was a movie that tailored to my tastes, this was it.
