My Views on Battles: A defence of My Site

I don't see what the problem is with doing battles or discussions on this material. I mean, its okay for guys to have fantasy football teams or discuss who is a better stick handler but I am some kind of freak for thinking who would win in a fight between comic book characters. In my opinion this is the same thing. People would argue that the fantasy sports teams make money since you bet on them. Granted, but I get satifaction from doing battles that can be equivalent to winning a few bucks by gambling. As for the "who's better than who" discussion about sports figures, how is that any different from what I do? My brothers tell me that it is because these guys are real. They are no real to them as comics are to me. I don't mean that I think that the events in comics have happened, I mean that I see them on a page or on a tv screen and that's all the contact I get. The same for sports figures, on tv or in the newspaper. Granted there are live games to watch but then again there are conventions. You can meet a sport figure to get his autograph and you can meet the writer/artist/actor responsible for you character. The similarities make any arguement against discussion battles seem like bullying.

I have noticed that since I began do battles a few years ago that my observational and analytical skills ahve improved. I watch movies and tv with more interest since I want to be able to remember details for later battles. I can figure out a story before I even watch the ending now. These battles are just an exercise of my imagination, as was the original intention. This is a hobby now and may turn into a skill that will help get me a job as a writer with an indie comic company I am currently in discussions with.

This material has been around since the dawn of man, stories of good fighting evil. It is just that now there are many forms of entertainment to choose from and that most people just pick what is thrown at them. I think that if something has to be advertised so rigorously that it can't be as interesting as they make it out to be. If something is that good than it should pull you in on its own.
