Throughout most of my tv viewing life I have had one character that I loved to watch. Not because of the show or the events protrayed on the show, but because of the character's mannerisms and presence. What I mean is I like Farscape, but I wouldn't like to watch just John in his daily life, ...well maybe but I am trying to prove a point here. Captain Picard was the guy guy I wanted to be like. He was smart, clever and charismatic. He could handle Q just as easily as he did anyone else, that takes balls. I started to look into philosophy and literature just so I could be like him. All the characters that I created for my comic books had to have some kind of Picard characteristics if they were to be considered intelligent in my opinion. I think I spelled all this stuff out in my best captains article.
Stargate-sg1 began appearing just around the middle of DS9 I believe. I didn't watch DS9 when it was around so I was looking for something else. I loved the Stargate movie so the show was a natural selection. I felt a kinship with the character of Daniel Jackson because he was the nerd of the group. He was the intelligent and philosophical guy. I didn't like to see him be goofy because it just hit to close to home sometimes. But he grew, he began to handle himself with charisma and was even handling the fighting. Now he is my new role model. He has charm, intelligence and can handle himself.
The last episodes of season 8 showed this more than any other. He was locked in a mental battle with the RepliCarter and held on. He even tricked her and went into her mind! That was so cool, but on top of that he was acting all cool and badass. His charatcer is so good and important to the show that they had to bring him back when he left.
This isn't to say that I don't think Picard is the guy to emulate, because he still is. Daniel is like Picard in a way but a little different in others. I strive to take their examples and live by them.
