This battle is a prelude to the universe battle that I eventually did between the Star Trek universe and the Star Wars universe.
I assumed that pilots of equal experience and skill were flying each ship. These ships are the fighters of each universe, more or less. I discovered after this battle that Starfleet has its own fighters, as seen on an episode of DS9.
But the weapons systems are the same so only certain are different, but not enough in my opinion to redo the battle.
I have Rogue Squadron for N64 so I know enough about the manoeuvrability of an x-wing. A runabout has no manoeuvrability compared to an x-wing.
George Lucas said that he envisioned the x-wing as futuristic dogfighters. So I think they would fly circles around a runabout, this is important in this battle
because I believe that a runabout has weapons superior to those of the x-wing. The shielding tech is better in my opinion as well. Let me explain: As seen in Episode 1,
the shield hugs the ships hull, this is the same shielding used by an x-wing. Starfleet shields form a bubble around the ship. Any explosions on the shield's surface will cause damage to nearby parts of the
ship. Thus hits landed on the x-wing will have more of an effect than on the runabout. So why do I think that the x-wing will win?
Even though the firepower of the runabout is greater than that of the x-wing, it is slow. A phaser is a continous stream of energy. When ever we see one fired it goes straight out and doesn't follow its target.
The x-wing's weapons can change direction quickly since they are rapid energy blasts. The x-wing can fly around the runabout, not allowing it to get a steady shot, all the while getting shots in. The shields will fail eventually.
Any repairs needed will have to wait since only one person is on the runabout while the x-wing has an R2 unit to do the repairs automatically. Since an x-wing is always flown with an R2 unit along this doesn't violate my rule of no outside help.
The x-wing was designed to be a fighter while the runabout was an all purpose vehicle.
