The Stargate universe vs. The Star Trek universe

The Stargate universe vs. The Star Trek universe

This was not one of the battles that my friends and I did since neither of them watch Stargate-sg1. I wanted to do it here in the hope that someone who watches the show will reply. In these universe battles I usually break them down into three sections: Land Battle, Air/Space Battle, and the tie breaking Espionage/Sabotage/Other.

Land Battle: On Stargate's side: The Jaffa, Tok'Ra, and SGC would fight together. They have similar tactics and weapons so I am just considering them together. The Replikators would also fight on land well enough. The Tolan were shown to have a competent security force, so these guys can be considered. Of course, the Goa'uld will be there. Oma's race are a big part that will discussed soon. The Reetou are also a big part. On Star Trek's side: I always group some of the races into a single group in universe battles involving the star trek universe. The grouping is the Rommuluns, the Klingons, The Federation, The Cardassians, pretty much all the Alpha quadrant races and some Delta quadrant ones. The special factors are the Borg, the Founders, the Jem-Hadar, and Species 8472. I am not allowing the Q continuum to be used. The truth is that Star Trek would win simply because of the Q. Lets assume that they are running this battle or that they are responsible for bringing everyone into one area. This land battle will take place like all my battles, on earth. The two generalized groups would be evenly matched. The special factors are what I'm focusing on. The Replikators feed on energy, so the phasers only energize them. The Reetou can attack with impunity since the fighters from the Star Trek universe have no idea that they are there. Oma's race will clean up easily with some lightening and hurricanes. The Borg aren't harmed by energy attacks so they will procede to attempt hand to hand attacks and assimilation. The Founders could do some harm if they get close enough. Species 8472 can do some damage as well. My desicion goes to Stargate, for the land anyway. The reason should be obvious by what I said above. None of the Star Trek races can beat or knows how to beat either Oma's race or the Replikators. The Borg would be beaten by the SG teams since borg are vulnerable to projectile weapons. The Ashrac of Anubis (Ashrac: those hunter guys, the kind that was after Jolinar), or any Ashrac I guess, could take out a good number of fighters on his own. The SGC have Naquada enhanced nukes that can be fire from anywhere via a stargate. The Tolan have those phase technology based explosives that can be used in a similar manner, thus making any Star Trek base vulnerable. There is still two other parts to this.

Air/Space Battle: Star Trek shows us more in this field. The ships are different in certain ways but overall they all have the same stuff. They only special factors are the following races. The Rommuluns, Siluban and Klingons have cloaking devices. The Hirogen have hunting sensors. Species 8472 has that wicked attack that blew up a Borg cube. The Breen have that energy dissipation weapon. The Borg are the ones to watch in this battle. The things that makes them so cool are their ships. Regenetive shielding and awesome weapons. Stargate doesn't have a lot of space info since they mostly use the gates. The Goa'uld and the Asgard have cloaking devices. The cloaking device that Apophis used once was able to cloak his whole armada. Death Gliders are agile enough to take on a runabout. This space battle goes to Star Trek because Stargate has nothing that can beat the Borg. The Breen energy dissipation weapon would take out a few ships easily. The Borg would easily take out a Goa'uld ship. Species 8472 would also kick some ass with that weapon of theirs. The only one that might last longer is the Asgard, I think they are powerful but probably not enough. The Tolan Ion canons can be considered here since they can attack ships in space. If these things can take out a Goa'uld mother ship in one shot than any of the general Star Trek ships are at similar risk. Still, The Asgard are clever enough to figure out how to takeout the Borg and the Goa'uld don't change strategy for anything. Therefore Star Trek wins this battle. This is significant because most of the troops that fought in the land battle had to have been transported by ships to the surface. But they would just use the gates anyway.

Espionage/Sabotage/Other: The purpose of this section is to break ties or to strengthen an arguement. Here we have a tie. Under espionage, the Star Trek has the Founders that can infiltrate any ship or base, usually. The Founders can fool tricorders but they themselves can't sense everything. They don't know that beings like the Jaffa and The Goa'uld have symbiotes inside them. The symbiotes aren't seen from the outside, therefore the Founders wouldn't know to form one inside them when they assume the shape of a Jaffa or Goa'uld. This is a problem for them since Goa'uld symbiotes can sense the presence of other symbiotes therefore rendering shapeshifting-based espionage useless. Romulun interrogation techniques wuld work on the Asgard and SGC but the Jaffa are to strong and loyal to submit. The Goa'uld are the same. Betazoid or Vulcan telepathy can read the minds of the Stargate fighters, I don't think there is anything that can be done about that. The ultimate in information gathering: Borg assimilation. After the Borg board a ship or make through the land melee, they will assimilate the Stargate fighters. This is usually a wicked thing, but with the Goa'uld, Jaffa or Tok'Ra this is even more powerful since symbiotes have the entire knowledge of the Goa'uld that has accumulated over the centuries. This would allow the Borg access to everyhting the Goa'uld knows about weapons and technology of both their own race and the others. Stargate is not without its own third vector. The Goa'uld can possess any being and acquire their knowledge of technology and weapons. Anubis implanted that thing in Thor to learn all he knew, so then this is also something that can be done. The personal cloaks used by Nierti and Anubis' Ashrac show us that these guys could infiltrate any Star Trek base without being detected since they don't know how. The Reetous can also infiltrate any base for the same reason, although they would just sabotage it. The Replikators are like the Borg of the Stargate universe. They would teleport themselves from a ship to where ever they wanted, or just walk into a base, and start to eat away at the materials of that place. They are also smart enough to learn how to use technology to their advantage, thus turning Star Trek's technology against them. This is a tough one to judge. The Borg would kick ass when they assimilate the Goa'uld, but that's assuming that they can. I said that they would be taken out by the SGC or (I forgot) any if the various primitive cultures or the Unus. The Goa'uld are armed with their hand devices which can stop a borg drone easily in my opinion. The symbiotes can possess beings quickly before they know what's going on. The problem is that the Goa'uld don't know or care about the Borg and would probably get assimilated when they try to possess a drone. In the end, after all this, its basically the Borg vs. the Replikators since the Borg will have assimilated most of the Stargate fighters and the Replikators would not have been stopped by anyone. The Borg can't stop the Replikators, its that simple. Even with all the knowledge of the Stargate universe. Since no one has ever defeated them in their own universe, the Replikators are basically unstoppable. They would eventually defeat the Borg. Many loses but the last "man" standing belongs to Stargate.

2/3, the third being the most important. There are a few things I forgot to mention but they would really make a difference now. The Goa'uld can heal themselves or bring themselves back from the dead using sarcophaguses. The Nocs can do the same for everyone else. My rules state that a race must appear on more than one episode, but Stargate is one of the only shows that I have seen that has the continuity of a comic book. This rule would seem to be unfair to Stargate. But the rule stands regardless. I mention them here just for fun. Those energy flies that SG1 encountered would be unstoppable and would kill most of the Star Trek fighters quickly. They wouldn't work on the Borg though since they are still energy. The Entity, that electrical being that possessed the SGC computers and Maj. Carter, could help but not so much. From Star Trek I didn't mention some stuff. The genesis device from the early Star Trek movies would terraform a planet. This device could transform all material on the land battle planet (Earth) and thus eliminate the Stargate fighters. I didn't think they would use it since it would take out their fighters as well. The same goes for the Metrion Cascade that destroyed Rhinax, Neilex's home. The last thing that I will mention is that this kind of battle is on going since this two shows or movies are still on.

Update after Season 3 of Enterprise and in the middle of Season 8 of SG1 and Season 1 of SG: Atlantis:

The inclusion of these updates doesn't change anything, I just wanted this page to be up to date on its material. The only significant addition from Enterprise thus far has been the Xindi, the Xindi weapon, and the Spherebuilders. From the Stargate universe we have some good additions: The Wraith, The Genii (although very new at the time of this posting they will return according to www.tvtome.com), Anubis' drones, Humanoid Replikators, the ancient weapon used in Lost City, Earth's fleet of F-302's and the Prometheus, and Atlantis' puddle jumpers.

The Genii seem like they woul just add to the general group from the SG universe, since they use similar weaponry and tactics. The drones and Wraith will add to the effectiveness of the SG army. The Wraith can't be killed, although a phaser set to kill would vapourize them I guess. The Wraith have illusionary powers as well so they can fake out the majority of the St fighters. The Drones can easily withstand a phaser blast, so they have the same usefulness as the Replikators in that no one from the ST universe knows how to stop them. Speaking of the Replikators, now they are in human form. They have tactile telepathy now, meaning they add to the espionage/sabotage portion of the battle.

In the space portion, the SGC now has the Prometheus and F-302s to fight with. The Replikators show that they can now become ships. The F-302s and Prometheus are not much of a much for most ST ships but the Replikator ship is made of Replikators, meaning they are now like the Borg: unstoppable. The Xindi ships add a little bit to the fight but they are still pretty much in the generalized group. They wouldn't use that weapon to destroy earth since their guys are still on the planet. The Sphere Builders can use the spheres to distort the local space. This may disrupt subspace enough so that the stargates can't work anymore, like in the SG1 episode where they pass through a sun (in it we learn that a DHD won't engage if there the wormhole is going to pass through a celestial body). But this would destroy all of the ST ships as well, so it can only be used sparringly.

Again, the SG universe wins because of the Replikators.

Update after Season 8 of SG1, Season 1 of Atlantis, and after the Mirror universe episodes of Enterprise: After reading the posts on the DCMB and looking over everything I have said before, I have more things to add. I have said before that the Q are not to be considered since they are too powerful and make the entire battle futile. Madtitan from the DCMB mentioned the other powerful entities in the ST universe. I thought of them as well and again they would make the battle useless. Therefore I don't considered them either.

Also, in my opinion, Species 8472 are not the powerful enemies that most people make them out to be. They apparently have such wicked pyschic powers, but I can't remember one instance where they reaked havoc on the ship with their pyschic powers. I realize that they almost defeated the Borg by blowing up their ships. I mentioned this in my space battle section. The SG universe won in the ground and espionage sections. I don't remember Species 8472 ever reading the minds of the humans looking for info. If they did, they would have known that the humans came up with an attack with nanites that would kick their asses. The weapons used by the fighters of the SG universe are enough to kill a member of Species 8472, that is they can land a shot. Eventually they would or an ascended Ancient would strike them with lightening.

Another point that has been raised is that th Borg aren't as weak as I made them out to be. Let me clarify my thoughts. The Borg have shown that they adapt to any situation they encounter. But they still have never seemed to have gotten rid of the weakness that I am exploiting in this battle: physical and solid based attacks. There have been many times when we have seen a member of the crew punch a Borg drone. Now this is stupid since they will end up being assimilated but the lack of defence against solid matter is still there. Picard took 2 of them out with a holographic Tommy gun, so I think the SGC can take out a whole bunch with their P90s. Also, the end of First contact showed that the drones can't live without their organic components. Therefore removing them or damaging them to a certain degree should do the job. I said that the entire battle basically comes down to the Borg vs. the Replikators. The Replikators, both insectoid and humanoid, are strong and agile enough to take out a borg drone. Their is no adapting to the physical attack of having a sharp object thrust into your body. A Replikator drone can decapitate a Borg drone within seconds. Unlike the Borg, the Replikators have no weaknesses. The only thing that still exists to defeat them is the Ancient weapon that took them all out. The Borg could assimilate the knowledge to use the device but the device would be heavily guarded. Speaking of the device, that could be used to simply destroy anyone not from the SG universe (by aiming at the natural frequency of their atoms, or some other explaination). So, in order to remain fair, I am taking the device out of play. This way things are even: ST loses the Q and the other omnipotents while SG loses the Ancient universe reboot device.

Other things to add are updates from the last few episodes of SG1 and SGA, especialy the fact that Earth now has a ZPM to power its Ancient tech defenses, although I allowed them to use it before I saw this episode since it was conceivable that they could get another one. The main thing that adds to the fight is the Ancient defense platform orbiting around Atlantis and Atlantis' defenses themselves. I believe that this would tun the tide in the Space section of this battle. I don't know if the platform is powerful enough to take out the Borg Cubes but it can take out the other ships easily. The Borg still win the space section but the SG universe has just gained some respectable ground.

Winner: The Stargate Universe (In reality: The Star Trek Universe)

While I was visiting the DC Comics Message Board, I ran into 2 people that had comments on this battle. The following is one of their posts on this battle:

fighting Species 8472 alone is almost like fighting white martians except for they don't fly and have martian vision but have everything else. And Q is nothing but a smarter 5D imp, might not be limited to dimensions either, he seems tooperate more on the Beyonder's level.

The Borg are the premire bada55's of the Star Trek Universe (non cosmic entities)........and they well deserve their title. After "easily" destroying the first couple of drones, they adapt their methods against whatever the threat is. The only times that I can readily recall that a large number of Borg drones were "easily" dispatched (outside of the first few minutes of a conflict before they adapt) is the instance of the accident from their experimenting with the Omega Molecule (they thought that they had it safely contianed, but Omega possess the power to kick start the universe), and when they were at war with Species 8472. Species 8472 are the ONLY race in the entire Star Trek universe to repell the Borg (like I said before, like fighting White Martians just without martian vision and flight but in comic book terms they are semi invunerable and have a good healing factor on top of their other abilities). IMO the Borg should be respeted accross Sci Fi because they have yet to show an exploitable weakness. Trying to match them with just brute force doesn't work (with the exception of Species 8472) unlike Species 8472 who now have an established weakness to Borg nanotechnology (modified by humans). Nano tech is another great assest of the Borg armament (the Borg will not hesitate to use Nano tech to wreack havoc on an enemy, sorta like a certian posters "Thor vs Batman" scenario lol).

Updated near the begining of season 10 of SG1 and season 3 of SGA:

The Ori alone could defeat the Star Trek representatives. Their ships have been shown to have such firepower that the can destroy an Asgard ship in one shot.
