I first thought that this random battle was a dud since Merlin's abilities aren't at the same level as Ghost Rider's, but then
I watched the miniseries again and realized that some Ghost Rider's abilities are useless against Merlin. His penance stare
won't work in my opinion since although Merlin had a hand in the spilling of blood, he didn't actually do it himself and I think that is what counts in the application
of the penance stare. Hellfire only hurts the guilty so this is also out. Ghost Rider only has his chain, bike, and strength
left. Merlin's abilities are all in play, although he didn't use any offensive abilities as far as I saw. Merlin could call
on lightening to strike Ghost Rider. This would hurt him but not kill him as far as I know. The only thing I see Merlin doing
is trying to trap Ghost Rider using the nearby plantlife, like he did that dragon. He could also call upon insects but they would just
burn up in the hellfire, as will the plantlife therefore he can't be trapped. Ghost Rider's advantage is that he has his bike so he can
attack with speed. He would drive fast at Merlin and throw his chain at Merlin's throat. Merlin would block with that shield. Ghost Rider would then
jump off his bike and let it ram into Merlin. Merlin wouldn't be able to jump out of the way in time. Merlin is still prey
to mortal weaknesses and he would be either killed or seriously injured by the impact. Ghost Rider wouild just have to finish him off.
Even if he dodges, Merlin is no match for Ghost Rider in a hand to hand fight.
