The Best and Worst in Entertainment for 2004

I know I said that I would never do this again but I again I find myself in need of something to do. I was already thinking about doing this artice again for some reason, weird. It was about this same time last year that I did this, so it is sort of appropriate. Here are my choices for this year's article:

Sci-Fi TV Series

Best Sci-Fi TV Series: Stargate-SG1
This show has made it to its 8th season and it is still good. This season seems to be focusing more on Teal'c, which is a good idea since he is only now being fully developed as a character. This is really the only show I watch now. It is definitely the only sci-fi show that I watch now since there is nothing else out there. I am watching Stargate: Atlantis, but it is sort of the same thing right now. I have taken to downloading the episodes because I just can't wait. I suspect that this will remain the best sci-fi show for as long as it is on the air.

Worst Sci-Fi TV Series: ?
I don't exactly hate any sci-fi shows right now so I can't say any are the worst. Although "worst" means the bottom of the barrel, this year's barrel isn't too full and what is there isn't too bad. They just aren't making sci-fi shows any more. So I will not label anything bad this year or else I may jynx the creation of a new show.

Best Ever Sci-Fi TV Series: Star Trek: The Next Generation
How could I not leave this as the best ever. Stargate has come close but this one will forever be the best. I don't know what else to say that I haven't said before.

Worst Ever Sci-Fi TV Series: Firefly
Firefly has been moved down to here because it belongs. The first show to be labeled by me as the worst ever (Earth: Final Conflict) at least had a good start and went somewhere most of the time. It was only in its later seasons that it really sucked. I remember getting through the forst episode and understanding the premise, and even liking some of the characters. This show sucked within the first couple of minutes! I didn't like any of the characters or understand the premise at all. Like I said before, the premise could have been worked on a little more before coming up with stories. There was nothing to take from this show. I ended after a few episodes. That is the sign of a truely crappy show. At least Earth: Final Conflict lasted a couple of seasons.

Cartoons

Best Cartoon: Justice League Unlimited
I liked JL and now I like JLU, its not a stretch. They have more cameos now, which is good for the comics fans but not for the cartoon fan. BUt since I am a comics fan, I don't care. The first couple of episodes weren't the best but they are better than everything else out there. There are going to be some episodes that are going to make me piss my pants, and that is the sign of a truely wicked show. I can't wait for some of the ones I have read about on tvtome.com.

Worst Cartoon: Fox Shows based on video games
Fow has done it again with having shows of the same type that all suck. I am talking about how each cartoon on Fox's saturday morning lineup are all either cheap anime or cheap translations of video game stories. Kirby: right bakc at ya, Sonic X, F-Zero: GP Legends are all based on games that all had half-assed to start with. Yes, theese shows are probbaly geared towards smaller kids, but what about the rest of us? Fox has nothing redeemable about its lineup. I suspect that this will also be a yearly winner in this category.

Best Ever Cartoon: Gargoyles
This won't change ever. I have already siad how much I loved this show. I plan on finding the complete seasons on DVD if possible. I miss this kind of show, the one that you have to have seen earlier episodes to get the full effect of what is going on. They don't write carttons like this anymore.

Worst Ever Cartoon: The Knights of the Zodiac
I first saw this anime cartoon a long time ago when I visited my cousins in Portugal. I didn't understand what was going on or what they were saying but the show seemed amazing. This all happened way before I started collecting comics. Now that I am more jaded, I don't think it is as cool as I once did. I actually think it sucks (hence the position it is holding here). The first couple of episodes were supposed to introduce the premise with a tournament that had almost all the characters in it. This lasted like 10 episodes, until they finally seemed to break and bring in Phoenix to start te=he actual story. Bu this wasn't the only think I hated. I wanted to see some powers to go with those individual identities. Instead we get mildly different fighting moves with lots of lights that don't seem to be any special. I mean, could Swan control ice or was that just some kind of illusion that goes with his punches? Could Phoenix fly? They all just seemed to be flashy effects to hype up the action that was never there. The reason this beat last year's winner (Avengers) is because this was exactly what I was talking about in that article. Armoured heroes whose armour serves no purpose. At least Avengers had characters I wanted to see who actually had powers, not to mention an actual theme song, not a remix of an 80's song. This might just be the version we see in Canada but what else do I have to comment on.

Reality Shows

I should again mention that I don't exactly like reality tv and that almost all of it is stupid. It is the worst trend I have seen on tv.

Best Reality Show: Dog: The Bounty Hunter
I don't watch last year's winner (Monster Garage) anymore since they haven't had a new episode in a while. They have done a lot of bikemania stuff, maybe that's why. Dog is the best reality show right now. This is a real reality show, the kind that films reality instead of making "reality". I like this show for the same reason as I like COPS. But since this show is on A&E, I don't think it will last too long. As for particular reasons for it being the best right now: because it isn't about a bunch of hot chicks on an island.

Worst Reality Show: Trading Spouses
I hate this show! It is just so stupid. Even my mom thinks it is stupid, and she lives reality shows. Just the idea of it! God it is so stupid. It is obviously either made up or they find the stupidest/weirdest people on the planet to be on these shows. I also extremely hate how when one channel does something like this others have to try to copy it. Thus the clones spring up. This show hasn't been out for more than a month and it already has a clone: Wife swap. God!!!

Best Ever Reality Show: Cops
Same damn thing I said last year. Its kind of boring now, I haven't really watched it lately. But it is still better than all the reality crap now.

Worst Ever Reality Show: Temptation Island
I hate this show the most because it just glorifies the baseness of modern tv. Sex and more sex. It like they just put people in a room and wait for them to have sex. At least last year's winner (Big Brother 1) tried to be a regular reality show, with stupid games and such. I couldn't stand to have this thing on the air. It defiled my tv! It shows like this that made me afraid of the future of tv. It just got worse when this thing came along. And then there was a sequel!! God damn Fox!!!

It looks like I may do this every year. I will try to expand it to include othern topics.
