Movies

Here are my favorite movies listed by genre, including commentary. However, my movie descriptions suck. If any actors name is spelled wrong, it's an error on my part because I didn't look anyone's name up, it's all off the top of my head.
Just so everyone knows I have seen way too many movies in my life time. My dad and I usually rent movies twice a week and see one at the movie theaters on the weekend. Once I went to Hollywood Video and started going down the rows seeing how many movies I had seen. I stopped after two rows because I had already seen almost every movie on the shelves.

Comedy

Christopher Guest section: These movies all have Christopher Guest in them and/or were directed and written by him. I consider him a comedic genius. Just watch any of these movies and don't tell me you didn't laugh your ass off. They were all shot like documentaries.
Best In Show - Staring: Christopher Guest, Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, Parker Posey, Fred Willard
This movie is about a bunch of people getting prepared for a dog show. Yes, that is my description of the movie. Just get up off your butt and go rent the movie, you won't be sorry.
Waiting For Guffman - Staring: The same people as Best In Show
This is about a group of people putting on a play for their town's 150th anniversary. I can't say much more. Well I probably could, but I'm not, just go see the movie.
This is Spinal Tap - Staring: Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer
This is a documentary about the metal band Spinal Tap on tour to promote their new album. The music in this movie is awesome.

Princess Bride - Staring: Cary Elwes, Robin Wright-Penn, Wallace Shawn, Andre the Giant, Mandy Patinkin
This is one of my all time favorite movies. If you have not seen this movie, where the hell have you been?
Strange Brew - Staring: Dave Thomas, Rick Moranis
This movie is so incredibly stupid that it's funny. It's about two Canadian brothers and their search for beer. Eh, take off, ya hoisers!
The Burbs - Staring: Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern
I wish I lived in this neighborhood, crazy things are always happening and what's with the new neighbors?
Ferris Beuller's Day Off - Staring: Matthew Broderick, Mia Sara, Jennifer Grey, Alan Ruck
This has to be the greatest '80s teen flick. Love, love, love this movie. Everyone must see this movie. Now. Right. Now.
Office Space - Staring: Ron Livingston, Jennifer Aniston, Steven Root
This is just a great, great movie. "Someone has a case of the Moo-ndays!" Everyone should see this movie, especially if you work in an office (hence the name).
So I Married An Axe Murder - Staring: Mike Myers, Mike Myers, Mike Myers (and maybe some other people)
A guy meets a new girl, but is there something she's not telling him? I love Mike in this movie and when he plays his dad? That just kills me every time.
Don't Tell Mom the Babysitters Dead - Staring: Christina Applegate, Josh Charles
What do you do when your mom's on vacation and the babysitter just died? Watch the movie and find out. I used to watch this all the time when I was younger, I thought Christina was so cool and I had a crush on Josh (still do, Sports Night anyone?).
Space Invaders - Staring: No one you would know, except for the girl from Jurassic Park.
What do you do when aliens land in your backyard? This movie is kinda stupid, but it's one of my family's favorite movies. We watch it every year. My favorite alien is the one that talks like Jack Nicholson.

Action / Adventure

The Abyss - Staring: Ed Harris, Michael Beihn, Mary Elizabeth Masterintino
I love this movie and it's even better if you can watch the extended version. Something's wrong on an underwater drilling station.
Pitch Black - Staring: Vin Diesel
Good movie. Vin is great in this movie. How do you survive on an unknown planet where it's always dark?
Gladiator - Staring: Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen
If you know me you know how much I love this movie. Russell is just awesome in this movie. I'm pretty sure everyone knows what this movie is about.
Alien Franchise - Staring: Sigourney Weaver
I love the Alien movies. My favorite is the second, Aliens, because when I was younger I used to pretend that I was Newt and crawl around under my parent's bed. One of the first movies I ever saw.
Jurassic Park Franchise - Staring: Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum
I love all the Jurassic Park movies, but the best is the first. You must read the books too. I read Jurassic Park when I was in the 7th or 8th grade and I'm rereading it again because of the third movie.

Musical / Dance

Grease - Staring: John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John
This is my favorite musical of all time. I know all the songs in this movie and can be found singing them when I'm bored.
Oklahoma - Staring: Gordon McRae, Shirley Jones
This is my second favorite musical of all time. Sometimes out of nowhere I burst into "Oklahoma."
Center Stage - Staring: Amanda Schull, Ethan Stiefel, Sascha Radestky.
I love this movie because it's about ballet and it has a good soundtrack. My favorite part is the last ballet scene.
Billy Elliot - Staring: Jamie Bell, Julie Walters
Another great ballet movie, that also has a kick ass soundtrack.
Newsies - Staring: Christian Bale, Patrick Dempsey
This is a singing and dancing movie about newspaper boys in New York. I've loved this movie since I saw it in the movie theaters and it helps that Christian Bale is in it.

Fantasy / Sci-Fi

Legend - Staring: Tom Cruise, Mia Sara, Tim Curry
I don't think a lot of people have seen this movie, but it's my favorite Tom Cruise movie. It's got unicorns, fairies, and goblins.
Labyrinth - Staring: Jennifer Connelly, David Bowie
Great movie. Bowie as the Goblin King. Lots of interesting characters in it.
Excalibur - Staring: A bunch of people I don't know
I love the King Arthur legend and this is the best movie about it.
Dune - Staring: Kyle McKachlan, Sean Young
This is the original, not the one on Sci-Fi channel, although that was a good movie too. You should read the books too. "Spice is life."

War Movies

Saving Private Ryan - Staring: Tom Hanks, Tom Sizemore, Matt Damon, Barry Pepper, Vin Diesel, Ed Burns, Adam Goldberg
The best war movie ever. The first half hour and the last half hour are some of the greatest battle scenes ever.
Platoon - Staring: Charlie Sheen, Willem Defoe, Tom Berginger
Classic war movie. Great interaction between Defoe and Berginger.
Full Metal Jacket - Staring: Matthew Modine, Vincent Denofrio
This movie for me is boring until they get to the bathroom scene and everything after that is great. Second half of the movie has one of my favorite sniper scenes.
Apocalypse Now - Staring: Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall
Another classic movie featuring one of my favorite movie quotes ever: "I love the smell of napalm in the morning."
Glory - Staring: Matthew Broderick, Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington
Excellent movie based on a true story. Denzel is awesome in this movie and he deserves his Oscar.

Drama

Empire of the Sun - Staring: Christian Bale, John Malkovich
Christian Bale is excellent in this movie as the young boy Jim, who must survive on his own in WWII Japan. Good book too.
The Negotiator - Staring: Keven Spacey, Samuel L. Jackson
It's about hostage negotiators and good cop, bad cop. Spacey and Jackson are great foils for each other.
Power of One - Staring: Stephen Dorff, Morgan Freeman
Not as good as the book, and it is very different from the book, yet still a good movie. It's about a young boy growing up in South Africa, during the '40s.
Shadow of the Vampire - Staring: John Malkovich, Willem Defoe
It's about the making of the classic vampire movie Nosferatu. Defoe is excellent as the vampire.
L.A. Confidential - Staring: Russell Crowe, Guy Pierce, Keven Spacey, Kim Basinger, Danny DiVito
Another great good cop, bad cop movie set during the '40s in L.A.
In Gods Hands - Staring: Some surfers I don't know
This is one of the greatest movies about surfing I have ever seen. I think it's even better than Endless Summer I & II.
Seven - Staring: Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Keven Spacey
I don't know why, but I really like this movie. It's kinda gross in parts, but it's a very interesting movie.
Dead Poets Society - Staring: Robin Williams, Robert Sean Leonard, Josh Charles, Ethan Hawke
It's about boys at a boarding school and their teacher, Mr. Keating. Robin Williams is great in this movie.
The Shawshank Redemption - Staring: Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman
You don't want to know how many times my dad and I have seen this movie. Tim Robbins at his best and an all around excellent movie.

Best Friends - Movies about the power of friendship.

Goonies - Starring: Sean Astin, Corey Fieldman, Martha Plimpton, Josh Brolin
I love the Goonies. Just plain love them. I don't know anyone who hasn't seen this movie at least once. You don't want to know how many times I've seen it.
Stand By Me - Staring: River Pheonix, Wil Wheaton, Corey Fieldman, Jerry O'Connell
Classic movie about a group of friends searching for a missing person. This movie has the best gross out scene. If you've seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about.

Extra
Just about any movie that had Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart together. To Have and To Have Not has the best line, "You just put your lips together and blow." You have to see the movie to understand.

Can you tell I see a lot of movies?
