Holding her breath till her chest was tight, She held on and tried to fight, As she closed her eyes she tried to hide, Tried to push back the pain inside, All of her paths had brought her here, To the edge of all her fears, She was afraid but she had to know, If she could break away on her own, The chains around her ankles seemed heavier than they weighed, And were rusted from the tears that she had made, The final ties that kept her bound, That kept her upon rocky ground, With every drop of anger from the past, She snapped away the chains at last, But the cuffs on her ankles still remained, As if remnants of the wisdom that she had gained, Now, from the edge, the blue horizon laid, And beneath it the jagged points that failure paved, There she stood, a breath away from heaven's den, And a slip away from a quick end, Her wings had been severely tattered, Torn from having once been beaten and battered, And even though she would try as hard as her might, She was unsure if she could make her wings take flight, Despite that time helps all wounds mend, She thought of chance that her wings could bend, For everything had boiled down to this, And the weight on her back couldn't be dismissed, But with all the doubts she still had to try, So she stepped back and prepared to fly, Then as her feet carried to the pounding of her heart, She took off in a running start, The sky gently beakoned out its call, As the wind whispered, "I'll catch you if you fall," The with all the strength she had in her core, She took the leap in her attempt to soar. |
