Prove It

Rebecca ran out towards the cool water beating agains the sand and jumped in. She laughed and squirmed to swim and get used to the cold water. She heard a howl behind her and a spalsh right before she dunked her head under and swam a little farther out. She surfaced for a moment and went right back under when a huge wave came her way. She felt the spurt of excitement when she felt it crash on her feet. Her eyes flew open and she swam up towards the surface when she felt a hand around her ankle. She sputtered water when she came up and looked over with narrowed eyes at the person. "Scared the crap out of me."

He grinned with a chuckle and moved his forefinger and thumb over his nose. "That was my goal."

Rebecca kicked up to her back and stroked her arms foreward to move backwards towards the horizon more. There were a good number of people at the beach for it being five o click in the afternoon, but they were farther inshore than where they were, drifting over the swells.

Darren dunked his head under a swell that passed them and shovered his short black hair out of his face. He looked over at Rebecca who was floating peacefully on the water, her eyes closed with relaxation and avoiding the rays of the sun. His grin was evil as he quietly moved towards her and then quick as an eel in water, grabbed her with both arms around her torso and tugged her under with him. His hands then moved down to her flesh over her ribs and his fingers wiggled to tickle her. He felt her squirm and then move away and they both surfaced at the same time. She immediately sprung to him, dunking his head under, using both hands. She giggled as she went to move away but he caught her arm and tugged her back under. They wrestled and splashed around under the water until they both surfaced a few moments later. Rebecca's hands went to press the top of his head to dunk him again but a bigger swell swam by them and her hands landed on his bare shoulders instead. She laughed as the water pushed her towards him but her laughter faded when his fingers gripped her forearms to keep her from moving and his eyes burned into hers. She felt pressure in her stomach as it cramped int he uneasy state her emotions suddenly turned to. Her eyes stayed on his face, wandering over his cheeks, nose, and mouth before realizing it was moving towards hers. Her eyes automatically met his an instant before his lips crushed against hers. His lips were hard on hers and they opened and closed over hers to deepen the pressure. His tongue flicked over hers and he heard her groan as she wound her arms tight around his neck and his hands gripped the thighs of her legs which were now gripped around his waist. He tilted his head in an opposite angle and then felt her quickly pull away and shove him away. Water lapped up above his chin and he lost his balance in the water enough to slip under. He quickly kicked up to see her swimming towards shore but the suction of the swells kept her from going very far and he quickly swam after her.

"Becca!" He called after her.

WHen he reached her, he turned her to face him and noticed her eyes red and teary despite the water droplets covering her face. "What...what did I do?"

The saltwater already made her nose stuffy but she sniffled and looked away from him. "I don't want to be another one of your girls, Darren. You've had so many and as a friend and hearing you talk, I know you never really felt for half of them. I don't want to be another one of them...it's cheapening, like that kiss just now. "

"Becca..."

"No!" She paused to push back her hair and sniffle again. "If you really have feelings for me and you really kissed me back there because that was the way you wanted to kiss me, the prove it." She watched him stare at her. She went to start swimming back again, hating the stupidity of her emotions and tears because of them.

Darren continued starring at the water, the pain and waryness in her seagreen eyes still pictured in his mind, her words bouncing in his head. He turned and quickly swam back out to catch up with her and turn her again. "Why?"

She stared up at him. "Because I've never been wanted before."

Even the loud crashing of the waves ahead of them didn't keep him from hearing her quiet voice.
