Escape
By Kristin

Shaking, Keri paced back and forth across the floor of her bedroom. She was furious with the way everything was happening she could hardly see straight. She had been looking forward to the end of the year and nothing seemed to be going the way she was hoping.

There were so many events going on in one week she couldn’t keep them all organized, her friends seemed to be bailing on her and her parents were suffocating her more than usual. She just wanted to get away, find an escape.

"Nothing makes any sense anymore!" She yelled while pausing in the middle of her floor. “Things can never be simple… oh my god and then my parents…” she chuckled sarcastically.

"They say they let me do things and that I have freedom but deep down they want me locked up in this hell-hole with no way out!" She screamed while she clenched her fists and stiffened her arms at her sides.

Ryder had been sitting on her bed and watched as she ranted about life. He stood up and walked towards her to cup her face with his hands.

"Baby, calm down. Your parents have your best interests at heart. They’re not out to get you."

She found that hard to believe.

"Then why do I feel so claustrophobic when they’re around?" A tear slowly rolled down her cheek while she desperately looked into his eyes for an answer.

Ryder swiped his thumb over her cheek, drying her lone tear. He gave her a short grin, shrugged and removed his hands from her face. He knew she was frustrated so there wasn’t much he could do to help. He just had to let her vent.

She sighed and walked around him to sit on her bed. "I don’t know. I just… like I said things don’t seem to make sense anymore and…" She paused, trying to find the right words to describe exactly how she felt but she couldn’t put them together.

He walked to the bed and sat next to her, rubbing her back. Ryder hated to see her this upset and watch her feel like life was being hard on her for no reason.

Keri noticed that the second he touched her, a warm sensation ran through her body. She immediately felt weak and forgot all of the confusion running around in her mind. What made sense to her was Ryder. She loved him for always being there and she felt like a bitch for never acknowledging that the past hour she was complaining.

She wiped a few fresh tears off her face with her sleeve and looked back again into his eyes. She needed comfort. She leaned forward to capture his lips with hers.

Ryder was taken back by her sudden approach yet he got lost in the feeling of their lips rubbing against each other. But he knew this wasn’t the time, she was too upset and he knew she didn’t know what to do with it all. He was going to have a hard time breaking away from it though.

After a few moments of lips closing over lips, he pulled away before she could lean into him for more.

"You’re vulnerable," he whispered just a couple inches in front of her face.

Keri opened her eyes and looked at him. She didn’t have to say anything because her eyes explained it all. She wanted to focus on him and not any of the other dramas in her life. The door was closed and it was only the two of them together, not the two of them and the rest of the world.

Ryder went towards her to place his lips back on hers. He slowly began to wrap his arms around her waist and put his weight forward in order for her to lie on her back.

He began moving one hand up her back to support the back of her head, where his fingers got tangled in her hair.

Keri felt the warm sensation through her body again, but this time it was more intense.

He helped her escape.
