After a courageous yearlong bout with cancer, Fran Johnson sadly passed away on October 4th, 2003. The fourth of October was the feast day of his patron saint, Saint Francis of Assisi. In sharing Fran’s love of Irish music, John, Mark and I have been truly blessed. Fran was the gentle soul within the band. He kept us centered and relaxed with his philosophy and wit, and a lovely sense of humor. His wonderful guitar playing and fine voice will be sorely missed and impossible to replace.
Fran taught English and Theology at LaSalle College High School. He was an artist, a poet, a musician, a husband, father and a friend. But most of all, Fran Johnson was role model, modeling Christ to his family, neighbors, friends and all those he encountered. Fran was a quiet hero who sought to serve The Lord in his daily life.
In revelation we read God’s Promise, “I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will enter and dine with him and he with me.” Fran heard the knock and opened the door. He is dining with his Lord.
Gentle Fran…Slán go fóill …Slán Abhaile …Codladh slán…Dia’s Muire duit.
My Morning Offering
“Let my works reflect your holy spirit. Let me not work for my own personal aggrandizement oh Lord. Allow me to serve you today and bring the good news of your salvation to all those with whom I come in contact.” Francis Johnson
