She didn't know what she
could say or do to make it better. She didn't know what steps needed to taken
to effectively reverse it.
She didn't know how to fix
it.
And it was killing her
inside.
Sam watched from an
observation room at Area 51 as doctors and scientists alike struggled to
deprogram Barrett. The interrogation was harsh. The need to break him was cruel.
But there was no other way.
He had to come to terms with
what had happened. They had to know if Ba'al had instructed him to do more.
The worst part was that he
knew. His hard gaze passed over the heads of the interrogators, cutting right
through the window to where she was standing. In his eyes, she saw the anger,
the pain, the sadness, and the betrayal.
Nightmarish flashes of
Martouf assaulted her, bringing her back to another time and place, reminding
her of the dangers of her affections, of getting too close.
Sam wished it could be
different. She wished it could be different in so many ways.
And it was killing her
inside.
