| The Nature of the Universe and Humanking's Part therein A Creation Myth by Charles Wolfe |

| In the beginning there was a vast and endless void. Within this void there was absolutely nothing; not even a speck of dust. Within this void emerged an intelligence; a spark of reasoned understanding. This intelligence grew from its infantile beginnings. Then after an eternity; or in the blink of an eye, this intellignece became omniscient; as vast and as wise as the void that it was, for the void itself was infinite. Then this void decided that it could become nothing more. However, it was still compelled to grow even further. The void came to the conclusion that what it needed to do was to become something and in this way it could grow futher. Therefore, it set out to fill the emptiness that was itself. It created to fill the void; at the speed of thought it created everything in the universe. From the smallest subatomic particle to the largest celestrial body, in an instant, it created our universe. The Creator is neither male nor female but both and neither; therefore, to call it God, implying masculinity, or Goddess, implying femininity, would both detract from the fullness of what It is. Thus, the Creator is the most appropriate nomenclature to use; Creator of the Universe, the Creator. To Its Son the Creator gave the aspects of Itself that are the Eternal All, yet He was not nor chould He ever be the All; just a representation of it. Its Son, therefore, is the embodiment of Yang and all aspects ot the creator that are masculine. Humankind saw this, the Son of the Creator, and proclaimed Him to be the God; the archetypical male deity. To Its Daughter the Creator gave the aspects of Itself that are the Eternal Void; yet, as with Its son, Its Daughter was not nor could She ever be the Void; simply a representation of it. This Daughter is the embodiment of Yin and all aspects of that are feminine. Again we saw this, the Daughter of the Creator, and proclaimed her to be the Goddess; the archetypical female deity. Now there is a natural pattern that makes up all matter in the universe. It is the very basic make-up of the Creator. The Creator; as with all things, is neither positive (good) nor negative (evil) but both. Good and Evil are the opposite sides of the same coin. you cannot have one without the other for camparison. However, there is a gray area between. An apathetic aspect of the Creator. Basically, the neutral aspect is the blind eye that allows humankind to do what it wants with its' freedom of choice. So that humankind can choose Good or Evil. This natural pattern can be found reflected in nature: the atomic structure; not that protons are good, neutrons are apethetic, and electrons are evil; however, the pattern is thus represented. Still this was not enough, humankind could neither fully understand nor perceive the Divine. Therefore, the Creator set out to define a further division of Itself. The Creator brought forth of Itself the Elements of Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. To Fire and Air It gave aspects of the Goddess that represented those elements. To Water and Earth It gave aspects of the God that represented those elements. Thus, Fire and Air are viewed as feminine and Water and Earth are masculine. To understand the nature of an element is to understand that aspect of the Creator. The elements were also given plants, animals, and minerals to help convey understanding to humankind. Air was given all the animals of that flew and their flightless cousins, the aromatic plants, and the stones that portray the same vibrations as the element of Air. To Fire was given all the reptiles and other animals of the deserts and the desert plants, and the stones that resound with the heat of the element of Fire. Water received all the plants and animals of the seas, oceans, lakes, rivers and streams; and those stones that are in harmony with the element of Water. Finally, Earth got those plant and animals of the forests and jungles; and those stone with the vibrations of the element of Earth. The Creator directed of the Elements to choose their messengers. These messengers were to convey messeges to humankind and from humans to the Elements and beyond. Air choose the eagle, Fire the salamander, Water the dolphin, and Earth the stag. Even with all of this, there was something missing. During the initial creation of the Universe the energy that is the Creator was imprinted upon each and every form therein; as the Creator is everything in the Universe. This energy is known as the Spirit. Thus all things; plants, animals, as well as minerals are imparted with a spirit or soul. The four elemental powers; Air, Fire, Water, and Earth are shown surmounted by the Soul. This is represented by the symbol of the pentagram and for this reason it is important, or sacred to pagans. Therefore, we wear a pentacle necklace to represent our adhearance to the Ancient Ways. The Creator further divided the God and Goddess, for our easier understanding. Of the God It created the Triple Gods; the Bright Sun King known as Lugh, the Horned God of the Woodlands known as Cernunnos, and the Dark Lord of the Underworld known as Pwyll. Of the Goddess It created the Triple Goddesses; the Glorious Maiden Anann, the Great Mother know as Badb, and the Dark Crone Queen Macha. Then for loyal adherance to the Creator we were given the gifts of the Knowlege of the Powers of the Magicks, the ability to make nominal changes in their environment and the universe. The preists and preistesses were then commanded to only impart these learnings to those chosen by the Ancient Ones to receive it; for magick could not be handled responsibly by all. However, as time passed there were those that would twist worship to their own ends; who stole the Knowledge of Magick. These became known as Sorcerers and thus began the battle between the Good, those that were chosen, and their Evil counterparts. As the seasons passed upon the face of the world humankind noticed the patterns. They recognized the four seasons of Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. Celebrations were had for the seasons. Spring was celebrated as the rebirth of life; Summer for the warmth of the life giving Sun, the Fall celebration was for the bounty of the harvest, and Winter as a reminder of the death of things. Then with the celebrations of the cross quarters; this became known as the wheel of the year. Things lived and grew and multiplied durring the summer, during the fall and winter was the harvest and when things would die, and spring would bring new life. We recognized this as a reflection of the of the pattern of life, death, and rebirth of the Cycle of the Life of our Souls. Finally, we discovered the most important lesson of the Creator. All of the revelationos humankind received accumulated in one very important discovery; the perfect union of the created with the Creator. Humankind is reflected in the Creator as well as the Creator being reflected in humankind. Humankind is, and has always been a part of the Creator. Therefore, we seek harmony with the Universe so that we can return to the Creator. |
