Celtic monks and abbots.

November. John Cassien, a Celt, was born about 360 in Scythia.
He brought monasticism from Egypt to Gaul. Founded two monasteries

Niall of the Nine Hostages, a ruthless pirate,
great-great-grandfather of Columba and reputedly responsible for the
raid in which Patrick was taken into slavery. Died 427AD after
ruling Ireland for 27 years. Brendan, born around 489AD in
Kerry, died about 570AD. Brigid, Abbess of Kildare and
associated with Druidic legends, died early 6thC. Illtyd, end of
5thC., teacher of David. Fday: 6 Nov. Gildas, born about 498
near Hadrian's Wall. ca 540 "The Ruin of Britain" on Church
corruption. Settled near Morbihan in Brittany. Illtyd, late 5th
Century, married, once a soldier, contemporary of Dyfrig, David,
Samson, Gildas and Paul Aurelian. He was Welsh, having David as a
pupil. Time at Cassian's Marseilles monastery.

6th Century. ************* Carantoc, said to be an
uncle of David. Arrived western edge of Bridgewater Bay where was
reputedly greeted by a young King Arthur (who was probably born late
5th Century). Fday: 16 May. Endellion?, daughter of Brychan and
said to be a god-daughter of King Arthur. Perhaps died near
Tintagel. Kea early 6th Century (contemporary of Gildas) Wales,
Cornwall and Brittany. Reputedly attempted to reconcile King Arthur
and Mordred and persuaded Guinevere to become a nun. Fday: 5
November. Columcille (Columba), born Colum MacFhelin MacFergus
in dOnegal 7 December 521, a grandson of the house of Leinster. In
546AD he founded a monastery at Derry, now the city of Londonderry.
In 563AD he set out on the trip that ended with the foundation of
Iona, which already possessed a Christian community. Died 9 June
597AD. Aidh Mac Bric, contemporary and relative of Columba
Melaine, died mid 6th Century. Bishop of Rennes, romaniser.
Born Pannonia (Hungary) early to mid 6th Century: Martin of
Tours, son of a Magyar officer in the Roman army. Started as a
soldier, imprisoned by Rome after conversion to Christianity.
Pioneer of western monastics. 572AD Bishop of Tours. SOMETHING WRONG

Strathclyde late 5th? Kentigern, founder of Glasgow, died 612AD
Cybi, Great grandson of Geraint, King of Cornwall. Ended up at
Holyhead, site of an old Roman fort. Contemporaries: Enda and
Seriol. Fday 8 Nov. Tysilio, born at Shrewsbury at the end of
the 6th Century as a member of the Powys royalty. died 640 St
Sullae, Brittany. The Saxon victory and slaughter of Bangor monks at
battle of Chester 617 AD led the Powys regime to move to Mathrafae.
**** 7th Century. 617 Saxon victory at Chester. Massacre
of the Bagnor monks. The court of the kingdom of Powys was moved
from Shrewsbury to Mathrafae. Colman of Lindesfarne, bishop, was
the main speaker for the Celtic Church at the Synod of Whitby where
there was a victory for Wilfred who took the Roman position. Colman
withdrew to Iona and then Ireland with 30 Anglian monks. Inishbofin
and Mayo?
