Mt. Shasta (14,162')

Brief report:

2008 Memorial weekend in Shasta.

We woke up Saturday morning near Bunny Flat to rain and snow. We stayed in our tents until we get a small break from the precip and went back into town and dried our stuff at the laundry mat. Then, we headed up back to Bunny Flat and started the approach to the West Face Gully route at approx 2:30pm Saturday. We made it to our camp at Hidden Valley (~9,200') in just under 4 hrs. We got a decent clearing Saturday evening. We woke up after 2:30am Sunday and started moving by ~ 4:00am. It got cloudy just by day break and then it began to get worse each hour. We had white outs and then it just began snowing in earnest. There were approx 25 other people on the route....some turned around lower down......we kept going along with a few other groups and at about 12,800 feet of elevation we all decided to call it a day and go down. It became quite white out and windy & cold. Everyone made it safely down to Bunny Flat. We celebrated Sunday evening anyways at Billy Goats Tavern with burgers & beers. Most people did not summit on Sunday because of the weather. Oh well......there is always a next time......the mountain is going no where.

Pictures.
