Brief report:
A much better than anticipated hike in terms of scenerry. Very green for this part of Southern California mountains. I hiked with Gibran Begum and Steven Sauter. We leisurely made the top in about 5 hours from the Marion Mtn trailhead. Several other hikers on top, mainly coming up via the Palm Springs tramway (Round Valley route). I took a side trip and bagged nearby Miller Peak (10,400') and Cornell Peak (9750') to the east of San Jacinto. I enjoyed the fun, class 3 climb up via the West Face of Cornell Peak with its final class 4 summit block (appraoched via the SW side). Quite a view to the north: 9000+ ft of relief, down to the windmills near Palm Springs.
