San Bernardino Peak, California, USA (10,649 ft / 3246 m): via SB Peak Trail (Angelus Oaks)

November 23, 2003

San Bernardino Peak (10,649')

Brief report:

A nice winter snow hike with Kevin Donaldson. We started hiking at 7:50am. Took a nice, long rest and early lunch close to the Manzanita Springs trail junction around 10:30am. Then, we had to break trail from 8,400 feet all the way to the summit. We stopped briefly at Limber Pine Bench for a short break. We then followed the summer trail to reach Washington Monument (10,290'). Took another break here, and a half hour later we stood on the summit at 2:20pm. It took us around 6.5 hours----longer than we expected due to breaking trail on recent snow. Left the summit at 3:00pm and we hiked the last 45 minutes by headlamp, making it back to the Angelus Oaks trailhead at 5:50pm. We then drove to Daphne's Greek Cafe in Ontario for gyros.
