Brief report:
It was a stormy Sunday on March 16, 2003, but I went anyway. I had been to the top of Mt. Islip before (in May 2001) and knew the way from the Islip Saddle parking lot. I left the parking lot at about 12:30pm. I actually saw a couple of other people on the way up there. It was windy on the final ridge and blowing snow. Totally clouded, no views whatsoever. After that, I thought I could make it to Throop Peak (9,138') but because I didn't take my snowshoes I made slow progress parading up there. I only managed to reach Mt. Hawkins (8,850'). Made it back to my car just before dark.
