My Name is Ben Roberts. I was born in the UK in1963 which makes me 37 now. My family emigrated to Australia in 1970

I worked as a Broadcast Engineer in commercial radio after gaining my Electronics Certificate and Broadcast Operators ticket. I was really having a ball for the first few years but eventually, the lack of any creative outlet in my work caused a good deal of boredom and discontentment. I did the normal things, you know, changed jobs, moved interstate etc, etc but eventually I had to admit that my job sucked no matter where I was. The service game is tough. You always have to be available to a business that runs 24, 7, 365. When I had come to the end of my tether, after eighteen years, I decided to kill the old me and create the new me. My Wife Heike and my Dad both helped and supported me in this (Mum passed away three years ago but she would've been all for it too). My chosen area was 3D graphics and animation with a bit of Multimedia thrown in for good measure. I cannot reccommend changing careers enough. We have done it hard and had to live on handouts but we still have our house and a marriage!!.... plus, I have a set of skills to take me into a growing industry. My Missus could see how despondent I was in my old job and hated to see me suffer. She was the one who really got the ball rolling by encouraging my mate Trevor (who teaches at the college I attended) to give me a pep talk on the whole thing. Trevor has been really great and even gave me my first commission (see the frog in the 'Works' area). I am now working as a freelance 3D modeller and animator. My showreel is yet to see the light of day and I havn't included any animations here yet (need an MPEG codec) but stay tuned. I am hoping to do some TV commercial type work and also to get a couple of animated series pilots off the ground.
