"To Love You More" - The Story! |
Kryzler & Kompany consists of:
They formed the band in the early 1990's, and became a hit in Tokyo's jazz clubs, but they wanted more success. They were managed by Robby Wada. In Japan the quickest way to be noticed is to appear on a television show. In 1994 Fuji Television, who Wada had contacts with, were finishing a series called Koi Bito. Unfortunately, they didn't want an instrumental theme, they wanted one with words. So Wada thought of the singers he could ask to record a song with Kryzler. The only one that he thought he had a chance with was Céline Dion, as she was still a rising star at the time, not the legend that she is today. He gave the request to Sony Japan, who forwarded it to René in Canada, however there was no response, as René was very busy. Céline's star was pretty high after all. Wada was reading Time magazine when he found his opportunity- he had met René at the Yamaha World Music Awards twenty years before. However, in Japan you do not call on friendships to complete business deals as much as elsewhere in the world. However, Céline was coming to Japan, to do a show which would be directed by David Foster (record producer) and Wada went backstage after the show and reminded René of their meeting. The two men got along very well. Also backstage was David Foster, who had been asked to write the theme tune by Fuji. René and Céline loved Kryzler & Kompany's music so René played the tape for Foster, who also loved it and so sat down and wrote the music for a duet between the violin and Céline's voice. The words were written by the head of Universal (Sony's rival), Edgar Bronfman Jr. He wrote it under the name Junior Miles. The song went on to be a number one in Japan for about 12 weeks and has been played around the world during Céline's tours.
