*time-out** Montreal (PC) - When the musician Marc Langis have be approximate to take part part in round European of Celine Dion, the tour be last three month, from September to December 1995. In fact, it was to return very right to accomodate the birth of his first child. The schedule however was a hustled strand and the round will have lasted five years rather, to finish last December. The day when Rose pointed the end of the nose, the bass player arranged his flutes. To meet the last flight which would take it along on scene to 20h30 to New York, it was to leave the hospital with 15h30 in direction of Dorval. Baby arrived towards 15h, so that with 20h, the new dad crossed the gates of the room of spectacle, the pride in the smile and the polaroid in the hands. " That, it was the beginning ", reports Marc Langis. " After that, it left into insane... "
In five years, Marc Langis did not miss any spectacle of the effervescent rounds of Celine Dion, not more than the five other musicians of the team. In fact, none them could really miss with the call, nobody not being ready to replace them. In the event of cause beyond control, one would have tried to find a substitute who could have read the partitions of the show at the last minute, without more. Otherwise, " one crossed the fingers ", smiles Langis.
All things considered, its five last years represented two world rounds under extraordinary conditions, reports it, to place in the hotels of four or five stars and the restaurants which go hand in hand. " It is a very different universe. Me, I call that the world according to Céline. Last year, one was in Hong Kong, Tokyo and one even gave a spectacle for the sultan of Brunei. Over one year, the whole accounts for some nine to ten months outside the house. " For my part, I had the chance to have children. Marc Langis arrived to Miami at at the beginning of September 1987, Pastorius is deceased 21 that month. " Before the swirl Celine Dion, it had the influence of Beatles, then the jazz. " Celine Dion, it is showbusiness in what is done best. The jazz is not showbusiness. " Marc Langis has already an album with his credit under the Latin title " Terrae incognitae ". He thinks today of a second.

Mardi 8 février 2000 Le tour du monde à la basse Marc Langis ressort du tourbillon "Céline Dion" Montréal (PC)- Lorsque le musicien Marc Langis a été approché pour prendre part à la tournée européenne de Céline Dion, le périple devait durer trois mois, de septembre à décembre 1995. En fait, il devait revenir tout juste pour accueillir la naissance de son premier enfant. L'horaire a toutefois été un brin bousculé et la tournée aura duré plutôt cinq années, pour se terminer en décembre dernier. Petite Rose a eu un petit frère depuis. Avec leur mère, les deux bambins représentent les plus belles raisons pour lesquelles Marc Langis ne se plaint pas trop de sa sortie du merveilleux tourbillon "Céline Dion". Le jour où Rose s'est pointée le bout du nez, le bassiste a arrangé ses flûtes. Pour rencontrer le dernier vol qui l'emmènerait sur scène à 20h30 à New-York, il devait quitter l'hôpital à 15h30 en direction de Dorval. Bébé est arrivée vers 15h, de sorte qu'à 20h, le nouveau papa franchissait les portes de la salle de spectacle, la fierté dans le sourire et le polaroïd dans les mains. "Ça, c'était le début", relate Marc Langis. "Après ça, c'est parti en fou..."
En cinq ans, Marc Langis n'a manqué aucun spectacle des effervescentes tournées de Céline Dion, pas plus que les cinq autres musiciens de l'équipe. En fait, aucun d'eux ne pouvait réellement manquer à l'appel, personne n'étant prêt à les remplacer. En cas de force majeure, on aurait tenté de trouver un suppléant qui aurait pu lire les partitions du show à la dernière minute, sans plus. Autrement, "on se croisait les doigts", sourit Langis.
En somme, ses cinq dernières années ont représenté deux tournées mondiales dans des conditions extraordinaires, relate-t-il, à loger dans les hôtels de quatre ou cinq étoiles et les restaurants qui vont de pair. "C'est un tout autre univers. Moi, j'appelle ça le monde selon Céline. L'an dernier, on était à Hong Kong, à Tokyo et on a même donné un spectacle pour le sultan du Brunei. Disons qu'on est bien loin de Trois-Rivières, relate le musicien, originaire de Cap-de-la-Madeleine. Avant de connaître les plus grandes richesses, j'ai connu la pauvreté."
Sur une année, le tout représente quelque neuf à dix mois à l'extérieur de la maison. "Pour ma part, j'ai eu la chance d'avoir des enfants. Après trois mois de tournée au sommet, il n'y a rien de mieux que de changer des couches pour te ramener sur terre. Ça a été génial car c'est sournois toutes ces choses-là..."
Reste que pour Marc Langis, l'ambiance qui prévalait au sein de l'équipe était saine. "L'équipe de Céline était composée à 95 pour cent de Québécois et nous étions remarqués partout. Tout le monde était épaté par l'ambiance de notre plateau. Souvent, chez la plupart des vedettes, il y a aussi le mythe de la vedette, le vedettariat qui est en soi une vraie culture, un style de vie."
Il faut dire qu'au total de ses 40 ans, Marc Langis compte quelque 25 années de métier et plusieurs études, dont un baccalauréat en musique et une majeure en jazz à l'Université McGill, le tout suivi d'une maîtrise à Miami. "J'avais le goût de m'essayer aux États-Unis. J'avais vu des musiciens arriver de là et ils avaient tous une avance sur les autres. Je n'avais pas encore 30 ans, pas de maison et pas de famille alors j'ai vendu mon ménage et je suis parti."
C'est à l'Université de Miami que se trouvait d'ailleurs son idole, le bassiste Jaco Pastorius, qui était pour lui ce que Jimmy Hendrix était pour les guitaristes. Marc Langis est arrivé à Miami au début septembre 1987, Pastorius est décédé le 21 de ce mois-là. "Je m'étais tout procuré ce qu'il y avait de Paco Pastorius. Mais c'est à Miami, lorsque je me suis lié d'amitié avec tous ses chums, que j'ai eu toute son histoire et que réalisé tout le drame de cet homme."
Avant le tourbillon Céline Dion, il a eu l'influence des Beatles, puis le jazz. "Céline Dion, c'est du showbusiness dans ce qui se fait de mieux. Le jazz n'est pas du showbusiness." Marc Langis a déjà un album à son actif sous le titre latin "Terrae incognitae". Il pense aujourd'hui à un deuxième.
Depuis son retour, il dispense des cliniques de formation sur la basse et vaque aux relations artistiques pour une entreprise québécoise de guitare qui l'amène encore une fois à communiquer avec une cinquantaine de pays.
