SUBURBIA SUPERSTARS
#2 Gorky "Bon Bon" Richards
Hello, DeLunTrash here,

Welcome to yet another installment of Suburbia Superstars, the
ONLY place on the internet that recognises those little treasures who lurk in those serene suburbs that can only be found in Christchurch, NZ.

This month, we are pleased to announce our Suburbia Superstar to be Mr.Gorky Richards of Woolston, who is probably better known to you all as Bon Bon the Clown.

Gorky Richards was born into the infamous travelling salespersons group: Daves Doorknockers and left abandoned at the Woolston Workingmens Club at the ago of two months. A pretty tragic start, I think youd agree.

After suffering from bouts of childhood, adolescent, and then post-adolescent depression Gorky turned to the well-known 7-step program to, as he likes to say get Gorky back to the sunnier side of the fence.

In the summer of 1987, after watching a Cosby Show Christmas special, Gorky Richards became Bon Bon the Clown. Hes never looked back.

For fifteen years Bon Bon has been entertaining at Childrens parties, weddings and even the odd garage sale. When asked what the highlight of his career has been to date, Bon Bon replied the 1994 Canterbury AMP show. He also won the best newcomer award in the Battle of the Clowns inter-suburb competition of 1989.

It hasnt all been fun and games with Gorky, having suffered a re-lapse in 1998, and also being hospitalised after being victim to a gang bashing following an impromptu performance one Friday night outside the Bus Exchange. Yet when asked what his biggest worry is concerning the future of his career, Bon Bon replied that without a doubt, the biggest threat would be the shadow that Ronald McDonald is imposing on the Clowning community. Bon Bon is worried that Ronald is making the big red nose and silly shoes something that is associated with the Happy Meal, and not, as he says a giggling good time.

Gorky Richards, Bon Bon the Clown, or just straight Bon Bon, with your cheery smile, and vintage array of knock knock jokes; you are a true Suburbia Superstar.  Perhaps, without you Christchurch wouldnt be the cheery place it is today.

If you happen to know of your own Suburbia Superstar, contact us in one of teh usual ways, and I'll send one of my qualified experts op suss out whether they'll qualify or not. I know it sounds harsh, but Bon Bon had to beat his way through 500 other candidates to gain the title.

Abrazos!
