| Mind Devourer Mind devourers are bizarre evolution of mind flayers. Some of the most powerful mind flayers, these creatures no longer just eat brains; they absorb the knowledge within them as well. Mind devourers are readily discernable from normal mind flayers, due to their expanded and irregularly shaped craniums. Their heads may grow to two or three times normal size. All mind devourers are psions or psion warriors. They seldom gather and groups, being naturally jealous of the lore and power others of their kind have gathered. Hit Die: d4. Requirements To qualify to become a mind devourer, a creature must fulfill all the following criteria. Race: Mind flayer. Knowledge (Psionic): 8 ranks. Manifester Level: 4th level. Class Skills The mind devourer�s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Autohypnosis (Wis, exclusive skill), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Knowledge (any) (Int), Listen (Wis), Psicraft (Int), Remote View (Int), Search (Int), and Spot (Wis). Skill Points at Each Level: 4 + Int modifier. Class Features All the following are class features of the mind devourer prestige class. Weapons and Armor Proficiency: Mind devourers gain no proficiency in any weapon or armor. Power points per Day: When a new Life Shaper level is gained, the character gains new powers and power points per day as if she had also gained a level in a psionic class she belonged to before she added the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (new combat modes, improved psicrystal, and so on). This essentially means that she adds the level of mind devourer to the level of some other psionic class the character has, then determines powers gained, power points a day and caster level accordingly. If a mind flayer had more than one psionic class before she became a mind devourer, she must decide to which class she adds each level of mind devourer for purposes of determining powers and power points a day when she adds the new level. Devour Mind (Ex): This ability allows the mind devourer to gain benefits from eating brains. For each level of mind devourer, the creature gains an ability point to Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma. This stat point is identical to that granted every four levels. In order to gain this bonus, the mind devourer must eat a number of brains equal to his level in mind devourer, though only brains with an intelligence of 12 or more count toward this requirement. Steal Knowledge (Sp): Starting at 2nd level, a mind devourer can root through the memories of its victims and discover their secrets. Essentially this acts as a speak with dead spell that can be used twice a week on each mind as long as the brain has been eaten. The spell is cast at the mind devourer�s manifester level. The mind devourer can also devour Tiny or smaller mind by simply devouring the body of the creature. Grapple bonus (Ex): At 4th level, the mind devourer gains a +2 circumstance bonus to grapple checks for the purposes of latching onto brains. This improves to +4 at 8th level. Improved Extract (Su): At 6th level, the mind devourer gains to the ability to extract minds from creatures that do not have a brain. This allows the Extract ability to be extended to all creatures except constructs and most plants. When devouring brainless minds, the extraction process requires a full round action. All other requirements must be met. Improved Schism (Sp): At 10th level, the mind devourer has successfully crushed the will of some of its victims. The creature gains the spell-like ability improved schism one per day. When invoked, the mind devourer acts as if under the effects of schism except that its mind splits into 1d3+2 parts, each of which can act independently. This allows for additional partial actions for power manifestation.
