| Fossilized Undead (template) Undead are eternal. Most are driven insane and are destroyed within a few centuries of their creation. Some last millennia only to crumble under the press of years. Others by misfortune are imprisoned in the earth for millions of years, slowly being turned to stone by geological processes. Fossilized undead are those rare beings, fossilize yet still existing. This template also includes the product of the animated skeletons of ancient beasts. Creating a Fossilized Undead Fossilized is a template that can be added to any non-fleshy corporeal undead (hereafter referred to as the base creature). It uses all the base creatures statistics and special abilities except as noted here. AC: The base creatures natural armor improves by +2. Damage: Fossilized creatures retain their normal attacks but gain the ability to petrify targets hit by their natural attacks. Special Attacks: A fossilized undead retains all the special attacks of the base creature and also gains those listed below. Touch of Ages (Su): If a fossilized undead touches a creature with a natural attack, the victim must make a Fortitude save (DC 10+ creatures HD + Charisma modifier) or be turned to stone. A character that makes the saving throw is immune to the creatures petrifying touch for one day. Special Qualities: A fossilized undead retains all the special abilities of the base creature. It gains those listed below. Hardness (Ex): A fossilized undead has hardness 8. This reduces all damage inflicted upon it with the exception of sonic damage. Apply hardness before damage reduction. Fragile (Ex): While made of stone, a fossilized undead is quite fragile. It suffers double damage from bludgeoning weapons, applied before damage reduction or hardness. It also suffers double damage from sonic attacks except on a successful saving throw. A stone to flesh spell negates hardness for one round. Petrification Immunity (Ex): A fossilized undead is immune to petrification effects. Turn Resistance (Ex): A fossilized undead has +4 turn resistance. This stacks with any normal turn resistance. Saves: Same as base creature. Abilities: Alter from the base creature as follows: Str +2, Dex -2, Cha+4. Skills: Same as the base creature. Feats: Same as the base creature Climate/Terrain: Any land or underground Organization: Solitary Challenge Rating: Same as the base creature +2 Treasure: Same as the base creature. Alignment: Always chaotic evil Advancement: Same as the base creature. Creating Fossilized Skeletons Animating a fossilized skeleton requires two things. First complete fossilized remains of the creature and second a 15th level spell caster to cast create undead. Sample Fossilized Undead Here is an example using the animated remains of an ancient giant.
