| Monster Creation: Giants There are those devoted to pushing the boundaries of biology, creating new and deadly creatures in the process. There are many forms of monster creation but one form used again and again is gigantism. Whether to feed starving populations or wreck havoc on those who have slighted the creator, giant monsters are created constantly in an average fantasy world. Alchemical gigantism is a non-magical variant unrelated to giant vermin or animal growth. By feeding creatures a mixture of dragons blood and other chemicals, a skilled alchemist can cause the creature to grow to tremendous size. Typically normal animals will become dire animals, vermin will become giant monstrous vermin, and other creatures will advance in HD until they reach a size increase. The process is slow taking week or months to accomplish and the final result is in no way under the creators control. If fact if its intelligent it will hate its creator fiercely for the pain he has caused it. Creating the size boosting formula requires an alchemist lab and some skill (6 ranks in Alchemy). The formula is specific to each type of creature (animal, humanoid, etc.) and requires one month of careful study costing 1,000 gp per attempt and a successful Alchemy check (DC 20). Once the formula is determined a dosage can be made for 300 gp. One dose must be given each week to cause growth. For creatures larger than Medium-Size, more than one dose must be given. 2 doses a week for a Large creature, 4 for a Huge creature, and 8 for a Gargantuan creature. Each week the creature gets a dose it increases by one HD until reaches the desired size (see appropriate creature for base HD). If the wrong formula is given to a creature, it grows but becomes a crippled freak that slowly dies. If the creature is intelligent it also loses 1d3 Intelligence for every 2 HD it gains until it reaches 3 Intelligence. |
