| She carefully made her way up the well-worn path, not noticing the bright yellow flowers of the bush beginning to close. The setting sun cast an orange light on the apple green grass, and the beige dust of the path. She found herself not caring as she used to after Jared left. She passed the old willow tree. Tucked under its hanging branches, a pair of lovers stood, embracing each other, and kissing, their lips barely touching. She continued on, pulling the hood of her black cape lower over her face, to hide the tear that fell from her eye. She and Jared were like that, before Jared left. She came upon a stone bench, worn and stained, from years of service that it gave thanklessly. That was where we sat, she said to herself, when Jared left me. Feelings overwhelmed her, and tears flowed from her light blue eyes. she began to run, her hood dropping away from her pale face. Her aurburn hair blew in the light breeze that had begun. Thoughts of the past flew through her mind: the first time she'd met him, in this park, down by the ducks; their first ritual together, she was suprised he was one of them; the time when she fell deathlly ill, he had made some of his grandmother's chicken soup, and stayed by her side until she was better. When she reached the clearing, her familar spot, surrounded by oaks, she fell to the ground sobbing. She had come here to curse him, for breaking her heart, but she couldn't. |
