Startled by the urgency in her voice, the other four turned around.
They drew their breath. There WAS a castle, just visible behind leafy
branches and flowering plants. It was in the distance, not too far away,
and it was beautiful. Even Tai and Matt had to admit that. Gleaming
golden in the sun, pink flags whipping in the wind, a glorious roof made
of glass, and flowering vines reaching up the side. Sora clasped her
hands happily, delighted at such beauty.
"It's like from a fairy tale!" she exclaimed.
Matt was suspicious. "Huh. Probably an evil Digimon's home. We
should
be careful." He started towards it.
Sora followed. "Honestly, Matt! What evil guy would make such
a
beautiful castle? I have the feeling we're about to meet a very nice
Digimon! Maybe a queen or princess!" Biyomon giggled happily.
Tai shook his head in disgust. "Girls! What is it about
queens and
fairy tales?! If Joe is anything like me, he'd stay away from such a
corny-looking place! We're wasting our time and I'm famished!"
Sora ignored him. "I can't wait to see the inside. Wow, this is
great!
Won't Mimi love it!" She ran lightly ahead.
Tai and Matt exchanged looks. "Gosh, am I glad we left her
behind,"
Tai muttered. "Sora's bad enough."
"I thought you liked her," Matt said slyly, throwing him
a sidelong
glance.
"Sora? Me?" Tai laughed nervously, blushing brilliant
red. "Where'd
you get that idea? I'm a totally free guy! I don't give my heart to any
girl!" He tried to look casual. "Trust me, Matt. There's nothing
between
us."
Matt just smiled and said nothing.
Meanwhile, Sora was almost to the castle, holding her helmet to
her
head with one hand. Biyomon fluttered beside her. She was thinking of
nothing except finding Joe and seeing the inside of the castle. It was
even lovelier up close, but a little smaller than Sora had been
expecting. Only as tall as her old school building . . . still, the
golden walls were so beautiful, and those flowers had a heavenly scent!
Sora sniffed deeply, pausing outside the gates.
Matt and Tai caught up to her a few moments later.
"Wow," Tai panted,
"That gold color is hurting my eyes. Can we just go inside and get this
done with? Ask the desk clerk if Joe is in here?" He laughed, but Matt
ignored him. He pushed past them both and went up to the gates, raising
his fists to knock.
"Oh, boy!" Sora said, clasping her hands.
There was no answer. Matt frowned and knocked again. Still
no
answer. They were beginning to get impatient.
"Is anyone home?" Tai yelled, hurting Sora's ears.
She was just
about to scold him when there was a little laugh from behind the gate.
Matt sprang back quickly, just missing getting hit by one of the heavy
gates as it swung open.
"What do you want?" asked a silky-sweet voice. "Can
I help you five?"
Biyomon began chirping excitedly. "It's her! It's
her!" She was too
delirious to speak. But no one noticed. They were staring at the woman
at the gate.
She was beautiful, prettier than her castle. Long pink hair
flowed
to her feet, and her eyes were a deep blue color. A wreath of roses
encircled her head, neck, and ankles and wrists. Matt's jaw dropped and
Tai began blushing deeply, wishing his clothes weren't so rumpled and
wishing he had been more polite. "Ah - er-" he stammered.
Sora butted in. "Oh, ma'am! Your castle is so lovely!
I've never
seen anything prettier! Do you live here all alone? Do you have any
subjects? Are you a queen - oh, yeah, and have you seen a blue-haired
boy with glasses lately?"
The lady laughed. "Come in, I'll explain everything.
You must be the
Digidestined. I've been wanting to meet the rest of you." She started
for the door, making sure they were following.
"The REST of us?" Sora said thoughtfully. "Then
she's already met one
- and that must be Joe! Wow, she's so gorgeous! Who do you think she
is?"
"That's Rosemon," Biyomon said, regaining
her powers of speeh.
"She's a legend in the Digiworld. It's said she's the most beautiful
creature on earth, and her motives are full of goodness and fun. I mean,
her only attack is RoseShower, which makes everyone fall in love with
someone else! Not harmless at all!"
"Izzy would think so," Matt murmured,
staring at Rosemon's tall,
beautiful figure. "But I kind of like it."
Sora gave him a sharp glance. Matt usually didn't
admit to his
feelings. "You like the idea of falling in love?"
"With her, I do," Matt said dreamily.
Tai nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, so do I. But I think I ALREADY am in love with her! Did she
attack us with the RoseShower when our backs were turned?" They both
laughed dreamy, dazed laughs. Sora shook her head in disgust, suddenly
not liking Rosemon quite as much. Somehow she hated the thought of Tai
liking this beautiful Digimon. Matt didn't matter, but Tai . . . oh,
stop being silly, she scolded herself, and stalked on ahead.
Rosemon led them down a long corridor, filled with the heavy scent
of
roses, and finally into a big golden parlor. By this time Matt and Tai
were whispering and goggling openly, apparently smitten with the
gorgeous Digimon, while Sora was furious. She sat down in a cushiony
chair, wishing she had never seen the castle. Rosemon, ignoring their
reactions towards her, poured them all a cup of pink-colored milk. Sora
and Biyomon refused, while Tai and Matt even asked for second servings.
"Now, about Joe . . . " she began.
