SERIES TITLE: TANGLED WEBS
MY NAME: Unicorn Rebel

Series One:

It had been a long, hot, and boring day. Matt and Gabumon sat slumped
underneath a tree - Matt playing his harmonica in an absent-minded way,
Gabumon wishing the girl Digimon would leave so he could take off his
sweltering fur coat. Beside them sat Tai and Agumon, both sound asleep.
Mimi was soaking her feet in a nearby stream - Sora was fishing for
dinner with Joe. T.K. and Kari, not caring about the heat, happily
played hopscotch, while Izzy tried to work beside them.

"Would you two keep the noise to a minimum?" he asked at last,
annoyed. "I'm doing very important work here!"

"What work is that, Izzy?" Kari asked politely, while T.K. stuck out
his tongue. Matt gave him a warning look as he played his harmonica.

"Not that it's exactly your business, Kari, but I'm working on a
study of how romance affects the human brain," Izzy said sniffily. He
pressed a few keys. "In my opinion, humans do not act so strange when
they are attracted to a member of the opposite sex just because they're
'in love.' There's a chemical reaction and I'm going to isolate it."

Matt stopped playing and laughed. "Gosh, Izzy, get a life, won't
you? Why do you care about that stuff? Are you going to tell me it's
wrong for people to act strange when they're in love?"

"It's impractical, yes," Izzy said. "It makes them act reckless and
foolish. And I want to wipe that reaction out before it ruins our team.
Suppose, for instance, that Tai and Mimi fell in love. They would begin
acting absent-minded, boring, and they wouldn't pay attention to their
work. We couldn't have that, could we? The entire Digiworld could be
destroyed if Tai doesn't pay attention because he's too busy admiring
Mimi's curly hair!"

"He's not THAT important," Matt said hotly. "The rest of us can
fight, too."

"Granted," Izzy said calmly. "but I'm not giving up my research." He
furrowed his forehead and began typing faster than ever. Matt groaned in
disgust and resumed playing his harmonica. T.K. and Kari went on with
their game, and Tai continued to snore. Everything was very quiet and
very boring. Matt's eyelids started to droop . . .

"Hey! Wake up!" Sora's cheery laugh broke the silence. "Look what I
got! We can eat now!" She held up a string of fish.

Tentomon buzzed over right away. "Oh, boy!" he said, taking them from
her and going over to Agumon. "Agumon! Wake up, you lazy Mon! You have
to start the fire for dinner!

    Agumon whimpered and turned over. "I'm . . . tired . . "

"He's no help," Sora sighed. She looked around. "None of you are. Am
I the only one working around here? What's wrong with you guys? Mimi's
taking a bath, Matt's playing his harmonica, Izzy is typing, the little
guys are playing, Tai is sleeping and Joe . ." She looked around again.
"Where is Joe? He usually helps me."

"We thought he was with you," Gatomon said, twitching her tail.

"No! I haven't seen him since we got here!" Sora was instantly
worried. "Oh, no . . . this is the last thing I need. He can't be lost!"
She raised her voice. "HEY! EVERYBODY! HAVE YOU SEEN JOE LATELY?!"

Tai woke up with a jerk. "Sora! You scared me! What about Joe?"

"He's lost," Sora said, anxiously. "Where could he be?"

"Chill out," Matt said smoothly, rising to his feet. We'll find
him. He's probably off being a nerd somewhere by himself. Agumon, start
the fire. Tai, Gabumon, and Sora and Biyomon, come with me. We'll find
Joe in a second. And be back in time for dinner, I hope."

"Me, too!" Tai stretched sleepily. "See you later!" They waited a
moment to make sure everything was in order, then marched off into the
forest, taking turns calling Joe's name. Their voices gradually faded
into silence. Agumon stared at where they'd disappeared, very worried.

"I hope they ALL don't end up lost," he mused.

Izzy didn't look up from his laptop. "Don't worry, they won't. We've
always been safe, right?" He typed a code in. "Now hurry with the fire,
please. I'm quite hungry!"

Meanwhile, the five searchers had covered quite a bit of ground. At
Sora's suggestion they stayed together instead of splitting into groups.
There was no sign of Joe, and they were all very discouraged. Where
could he have gone? And why would he do this? Matt's voice was growing
hoarse. He stopped in a clearing and frowned.

"We'll have to go back or we'll be lost, too," he decided. "I can
smell dinner cooking - Joe can, too. I bet he's back anyhow."

Tai agreed, relieved. "Let's go, then!"

They were just turning to go when they were interuppted by a scream
from Sora. "You guys, WAIT! Look up there! It's a - it's a castle!" She
pointed, her hand quivering with excitement. "Joe could be there! We
have to check it out!"
