A New Evil

   The day after Takeru and Kari had sat together by the lake's edge, Tai had
decided to immediately start searching for the Medallions.  They were walking
across a flat, cracked desert, when Matt noticed a funny look on his
brother's face.  He dropped to the rear of the group.
   "Hey bro, something bothering you?" he asked
   "Huh? Uh… no.  Why?" Takeru replied, putting on his best 'normal' face.
   "Takeru, you gotta work on your acting natural skills.  It's pretty
obvious that something's got you down."
   "Um… I, uh…"
   "C`mon, you can tell your big brother."
   "Well, you and Mimi are really good friends, right?" Takeru asked
   Matt couldn't help but smirk "Yeah, maybe a little bit more then that. 
How come?"
   "I kind of… like… this girl."
   "Ahhh, and you want to ask your big bro for tips, eh?"
   Takeru turned red.  "Yeah."
   "Hey man, that's OK with me.  I had to learn a lot things on my own." Matt
chuckled.  "And even now there's probably some things I still have to learn. 
OK, first off, it helps to know a lot about the girl.  Can you tell me who
you like?"
   Takeru looked away.  "I'm… I'm not ready to tell you yet."
   "Do you know a lot about her?"
   "Yeah, I guess so."
   "OK Takeru, Rule One in love is: 'I guess so' doesn't cut it"
   They'd fallen behind from the group and ran to catch up, but suddenly, the
ground shook
   "Augh!  Earthquake!" Sora yelled falling to the ground.  But, as suddenly
as the earthquake started, it stopped.
   "What the hell was that?"  Sora asked, brushing herself off.
   "An earthquake that was 6.3 on the Richter scale" Izzy said.
   Matt sighed  "Everyone loves a smart-ass."
   Just then, another earthquake came, this one feeling twice as strong as
the last.  A crack appeared in the surface of the ground, widening with each
violent rumble.  Then, a long, fire snake flew from the ground.  It resembled
Metalseadramon, but red, and with small, clawed arms, at least 50 feet long
and had a fiery mane.
   "What the hell is that?!" Tai yelled over the rumbling.
   Izzy opened up his laptop and scanned the fire creature.  "That's
Volvagamon, a fire-snake Digimon who burrows through the ground.  He's one of
Raydromon's goons, and his Hell Rush and Solar Flare attacks are devastating!
   "Well what've we got here?" roared Volvagamon.  "A couple of Digi-destined
for me to snack on!"
   "Oh crap!  He's big!"
   "He's a Mega Digimon, so we have to use Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon!"
   "Right!  Agumon Warp Digivolve to… Wargreymon!"
   "Let's go!  Gabumon Warp Digivolve to… Metalgarurumon!"
   "OK guys" Tai shouted  "Let's this fire head who's boss!"
   "Terra Force!"
   "Ice Wolf Claw!"
   "Ha!  You think such weak attacks can defeat me!?  Hell Rush!"
   A huge fire wall streaked toward the Digi-destined, dissolving the two
Mega's attacks as it shot by.
   "Duck!"
   The Hell Rush attack whizzed by, missing their bodies by inches.
   Tai got up to see that his hair was singed at the top.  Rage filled him. 
NO ONE singed his hair and got away with it! "Wargreymon!  Keep attacking
him!  Hey Joe!"
   "Huh?  What?"  Joe replied dumbly
   "Get everyone to safety!"  Tai yelled, not taking his eyes off the battle.
   "You want me to help out?"
   "Yeah!  Now go before I hire Izzy for the job!"  Tai yelled, watching as
Wargreymon dodged another fire ball.  "C`mon Wargreymon!  Nail that creep!"
   Joe turned to the group, watching them stare at the battle.  "Uh… OK
everyone, let's get moving to safe spot.  OK?  Please?
   Mimi smiled  "How about we actually listen to Joe for once?"
   Sora giggled  "OK, but only since I'm in a generous mood."  She turned to
the watch Tai.  "Be careful Tai, sweetie!"
   Tai turned his head.  "I will, don't worry Sora!"
   Sora turned to follow Joe, thinking about Tai in battle.  Although she had
had to leave Tai behind often, she still worried about him.  After all, in
most of the battles that took place, someone had sacrificed themselves. 
Wizardmon, Chuumon, Piximon, the list went on.  No one knew when a single
shot could hit one of them.  Oh well, what was she going to do?  Walk up to
the bad guys and tell them to play nice?
   Tai watched as Sora and the others ran to a rock formation for safety. 
Wish me luck Sora, my love.  Tai turned back to the action to see Wargreymon
block off another fire ball  "That's the right stuff Wargreymon!  Keep
going!" 
   "You too Metalgarurumon!   
  
"Terra Force!"  The attacks hit Volvagamon square in the face
     
Volvagamon roared in pain.  "Rrr!  Hell Rush!
   The wave of fire sailed into Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon. 
Metalgarurumon, being an Ice Digimon, was badly wounded and fell to the
ground, devolving into Tsunomon.
   "Tsunomon are you all right?!  Speak to me!"
   Tsunomon weakly opened his eyes.  "I'm sorry Matt.  I tried…"
   "Hey little guy, that's all right.  C'mon, let's get to safety.  This
isn't safe."
   Wargreymon sliced at Volvagamon, making a deep gash in his body. 
Volvagamon roared in pain.
   "I will DESTROY YOU!!!  Solar Flare!"
   A huge ball of fire formed over Volvagamon, brighter than the sun. Then,
in a mighty blast, the beam shot at Wargreymon.  Despite Wargreymon's thick
armor, the blast was so powerful, it cut into him, causing deep cuts, making
him devolve into Koromon.  Oh crap!  Tai thought to himself.  I gotta get
Koromon out of here!
   Tai grabbed the unconscious Koromon from the ground and bolted away.
   "That's right!  Run away from Volvagamon!  The strongest of Raydromon's
army!"  Volvagamon shot out blast after blast, each one missing Tai by a
close distance.
   "All those years of soccer are finally playing off!" Tai said, running to
his friends.  Sora, seeing Tai running with Koromon in his arms, realized
they were in deep crap.  With their strongest Digimon devolved, no one else
stood a chance.
   "Biyomon, you have to Digivolve and fly us out of here before were torched
by that hot head!" she said.
   "Right!  Biyomon Digivolve to… Birdromon!   Everyone hopped onto Birdro
and they started to lift off.
   "Tai!" Sora yelled.  "You have to get on!  Quick!  Hurry!"
   "It's too late!" Matt yelled.  "We have to go NOW!  If we don't leave now
Volvagamon will get us too!
   "But we can't leave Tai!"  Sora yelled back.
   "It's him or all of us!  Take your pick!"
   Tai realized he wasn't going to make it.  But if he was going to die, he
wouldn't let Koromon die with him.  "Take Koromon with you!" Tai yelled, and
hurled Koromon to Sora.  "Look after him!  I'll be OK!"
   Sora caught Koromon, but was heart-broken.  Tai was about to die.  As
Birdromon flew off, Sora could only cry.  Tai had meant so much to her, and
now he was going to die, God dammit!  The last thing she saw before Tai
disappeared was him, jumping off the cliff into a deep gorge.  Then… nothing.



   Tai fell.  He fell and fell into darkness.  Sora, he thought I'll miss
you, thanks for… "Oomph!"  Tai's fall was abruptly stopped, when a gloved
hand grabbed him by the leg, and pulled him into a cave in the cliff.
   Tai, dazed by the fact that he'd, once again, cheated death, sat up and
wiped sweat from his brow.
   "Are you alright Tai?" a muffled voice said.
   "What… uh, yeah.  Tanks for saving me."  Tai stood up, then fell back
down, trying to catch his breath.  Who are you anyway?  You sound really
familiar."
   The Digimon stepped out of the shadows, revealing Wizardmon!
   "Wizardmon!" Tai said, glad to see an old friend. 
   "Yes, it's me.  After I was deleted, I went back to a Digi-Egg.  I was
lucky to grow into another Wizardmon.  I saw what happened on top of the
cliff, and for helping me save Gatomon, it was only fair to return the favor.
 I also have something of great importance for you."  Wizardmon pulled out a
round, gray object out of his pouch.  It had the same designs as Joe's Crest.
 
   "Oh crap, is that… the Medallion of Reliability?" Tai asked.
   "Yes, it should help you destroy Volvagamon."  He handed the gray
Medallion to Tai.  It felt warm and heavy, almost glowing, as if it were
alive.
   "Now that I've helped you, I ask you for one thing."
   "Sure, what do you need?"
   "I wish to join and fight along side Gatomon and the others and destroy
Raydromon."
   "OK, no problem, but there's one problem.  They flew off without me, and
I'm alone."
   Wizardmon sighed.  Gatomon and him had been friends for such a long time,
and it had been so long since he'd seen her.  "Well, we'd better get moving
then." 
   Tai nodded.  "Yeah, but your just a Champion Digimon.  You don't know what
to expect in Digi-World, especially with Raydromon and his goons running
around." 
   Wizardmon grunted.  "Damned if I can't.  Remember, I have some psychic and
ESP powers.  And as long as Gatomon is still alive, I'm not going to stop
fighting."
   "All right then, if that's what you want to do.  But it's were not going
to get far.  It's turning to night."  Tai said, turning to watch the sunset. 
"And besides, Volvagamon is probably still hanging around outside."
   Wizardmon put a hand on Tai's shoulder.  "I sense that you're worried
about your friends.  Especially Kari and Sora."
   Tai smiled. "You are good at mind reading.  They probably think I'm dead."
   Wizardmon chuckled.  "Then they're in for a big surprise."
   "Thanks Wizardmon.  I see why you and Gatomon are best friends."  Tai
slumped down.  "Takeru will protect Kari for me.  Whew!  I'm tired.  Let's
get some sleep while we can."



   Kari sat by a tree, quietly crying.  They had landed deep in the jungle,
and everyone was pretty quiet all night.  Takeru couldn't stand to see Kari
so scared, so he went over and sat down next to her.  She hugged him tightly,
getting his shirt wet.  Takeru tried to comfort her, although he wasn't sure
what to say. 
   "Why'd he have to be so damn stubborn?" she asked with a sniff.  "He knew
that we were going to lose."
   "Tai stayed behind so he could distract Volvagamon.  He stayed behind to
protect you."
   "That was a pretty fricken` stupid plan.  He killed himself doing it." 
Kari finally stopped crying and hugged Takeru even tighter.
   "We don't know whether he's dead or not."  Takeru said, rubbing her back. 
"Koromon says that if Tai died, he would've faded away also.
   Gatomon and Patomon watched Takeru and Kari from the bushes.
   "Kari and Takeru have been together a lot lately" Gatomon whispered.
   "Takeru's been watching Kari over the past few days.
   "Same with Kari.  I think they're in love."
   "In love?  Human love is pretty strange."
   "I'll say."  Gatomon sighed.  "Let's go back to camp.  We shouldn't be
spying on them like this.
   Takeru and Kari sat together for a little while longer.  "It's late." 
Takeru said, helping Kari up  "We'll start searching for Tai first thing in
the morning.

I know this one wasn't as long as the last, but I'm still trying to round out
the story.  I HAD to involve Wizardmon in my series because everyone would
hate me if I didn't :-)  Well, it's late and I have to peel some cheese

PS.  I'll try to type up Part 3 by Sunday July 9th because starting Monday,
