Chemistry Class Description
                                                             Ms. Mullis

The MISD course catalog provides the following information about this class:  This course covers the fundamental concepts of physical chemistry. This is a college preparatory class for students planning to attend a 4-year college/university. Students will be required to use higher level thinking skills and math applications to solve problems related to the properties of elements, compounds and mixtures, atomic structure, chemical bonding, chemical equations and stoichiometry.

In Chemistry, students conduct field and laboratory investigations, use scientific methods during investigations, and make informed decisions using critical thinking and scientific problem solving. Students study a variety of topics that include: characteristics of matter; energy transformations during physical and chemical changes; atomic structure; periodic table of elements; behavior of gases; bonding; nuclear fusion and nuclear fission; oxidation-reduction reactions; chemical equations; solutes; properties of solutions; acids and bases; and chemical reactions. Students will investigate how chemistry is an integral part of our daily lives.    (TEKS 112.45)

The textbook will be the primary resource for practice and test preparation.  Throughout the course, we will concentrate on problem-solving and mathematical skills required to understand these topics.
Chemistry grades are based on the following distribution.
9-week grade:
Tests .. 50%
Labs      30%
Homework/ Quizzes .. 20%

Please note that the following items are required for this class each day:
