| Jack Dee Jack Dee admits that entertainment was always in the family- "I come from a long line of performers and actors, It's called the dole queue". Having quit Winchester Comprehensive to pursue a career in catering, It was whilst working as a waiter, that he began a period of moonlighting on the comedy circuit. Realising his dour persona got more laughs then respect in the restaurant business he took advice from his fellow colleagues and customers and took to the boards. That was in 1988 and Jack hasn't looked back since. In 1991 Jack won the British Comedy Award for Best Stage Newcomer and following numerous TV appearances and a successful run of Edinburgh shows he was nominated for the 1991 Perrier award. In 1992 came his highly successful Channel 4 series The Jack Dee Show followed by a 4th sell out UK tour, a sell out tour of Australia and a second series of his Channel 4 show. 1995 saw Jack and Jeremy Police 4 and Glamorama(70's pop quiz). The infamous Jack Dee's Saturday Night(filmed infront of a LIVE audience) was broadcast in 1995/1996. During 1996 Jack starred with Jeremy Hardy in Jack & Jememy's Real Lives on Channel 4. In 1997 Jack completed a 70 date tour of the UK and then took the show to Gielgud Theatre in London's West End for a 6 week run. Jack Dee's Sunday Service came next in 1997, followed by an acting role in The Grimleys and a smattering of the John Smith's Bitter commercials. A plethora of accolades include two coveted awards at the 1995 British Comedy Awards and Best Stand Up Comedian at the 1997 British Comedy Awards. From January to April 1998 Jack performed in a West End play for the first time as Yvan in Yasmina Reza's award winning play Art, going on to take the part of Serge, from November 1998 for 13 weeks. Numerous other projects include roles in The Amassador, Silent Whitness, It's Only TV But I Like It(The first series with Jonathan Ross & Julian Clary) and Jack Dee's Full Mountie. In April 2000 Jack Dee's Happy Hour began its first series on BBC 1 to great acclaim. |
