The Naming of the Steward's Sons
The entire country of Diridan rejoiced at the birth of their steward's firstborn son. Addrun, who had grown cold and distant since the loss of his father, could not stop smilig. He and Laera had decided to name him Atihalen, or Older Brother, in hope of more children to come.
They invited the prophet, Aleirrael, as was the custom. At the beginnning of the ceremony, the prophet was to bless the baby. [Just as fairy godmothers blessed royal children in fairytales] Aleirrael advanced, picked up the little boy, and gazed into his eyes. Then, in Addrun's opinion, everything went wrong.
"You are a man of destiny," the prophet declared softly, "You will try to run from it, but your destiny will follow you. Saryn, I name you, for you will indeed have no peace until destiny has had its way with you."
Aleirrael handed the boy back to Addrun and left. The ceremony continued, but it was not as the Steward had planned. When the nobles left, they were calling his son Saryn, not Atihalen. In the end, Saryn was the name that stuck and Saryn the child remained. No peace.

Three years later...
At Laera's insistence, Aleirrael was invited to the christening of their second child, another son. Addrun had chosen the name Elrynith, Peaceful One, for the child, in defiance of what the prophet had said of his firstborn.
As before, Aleirrael took the child in his arms and stared into his eyes.
"Cerraent, I name you. Hope for the King's return. Keep an eye oout, young one, for yours is the final watch. The last hours of fearful night are passing and soon the light of dawn will flood all of Diridan," he proclaimed.
And, as before, the people called his son by the name the prophet had given him. Addrun snorted in disgust as Aleirrael left. The last Raenyc heir had probably died generations ago, otherwise he would have returned already. It was up to the Stewards now. Still...Cerraent, hope for the King's return...
