Pig
Speak
What is that pig trying to say? Wish you could
speak pig? Here's a partial list of what I have deduced Dixie to be
"saying."
(If I can figure out how to get sound files up, I will attach
them to this page so that you know exactly what type of noises I am talking
about.)
- Heavy breathing
noise. So far, I have figured out that Dixie will use this
sound to show curiousity. When I gave her broccoli for the first time,
she looked at the stalk, breathed hard at it, and started to munch on
it. She will also use this noise for another purpose, but I can't figure
out what it is. For example, if I am sitting on the floor, she will
sometimes sniff my fingers and breathe hard at them.
- Moaning. Dixie moans
(which I can't stand) when she wants to get out of her pen. I almost
always let her out of her "pen" (my kitchen) as soon as I come home.
Sometimes I need to make a phone call without any interruptions, so I won't
let her out immediately. She then starts moaning. Dixie will also
moan if I have left the room and she can't get to me (a barrier is up).
- Short, barking type
noise. I have seen Dixie use this noise in three
situations. If I let Dixie out of her pen for the first time of the day
and I am sitting on the floor, she will come up to me and make this noise, I
believe as a greeting. She also used this noise when the window was open
and she heard someone outside. In the latter case, I think she was
trying to warn me that she heard someone outside. Also, if I had to
discipline her and she later wants to come up to me, she will bark as she is
approaching me, I believe as an audio version of waving a surrender
flag. She wants to be petted and she is sorry for what she previously
did.
- Silence. If Dixie is
silent, the only possible cause is that she is asleep or content (someone is
rubbing her belly).
