Season 8- Episode 13 - Damage is done
RTE voiceover "A domestic crisis sends Greene and Corday
into a spin as life continues in the ER"
This episode was rated PS. And no, I don't know what it means
either.
So Mark was going to go to work, Elizabeth was supposed to be at
work, and the babysitter wasn't coming round until later. Just
who was supposed to be minding Ella in the first place?
I suppose it wasn't too unreasonable for them to take up Rachel's
offer to help. I mean, it's only for a few hours and Elizabeth is
still in the house in case of emergencies...nothing *too* bad
could happen, right? <g>
Kerry "You're jerking my chain."
Romano "Why would I do that?"
Kerry "Because you can, Robert."
And the audience finally knows just exactly why Romano does
practically anything he does on the show <g>
Frank re Kerry being gay "You know you're going to hell,
right?"
And yet again, Frank is used to express the non-pc and totally
unacceptable side of a potentially controversial subject. TPTB
know that they can't just be totally one-sided in anything like
this, so naturally they get Frank to express the 'unpopular'
opinion. They did it before in 'Rampage' where Frank was the only
one not blaming guns for the situation. But since it was Frank,
nobody was expected to agree with him. I'm only surprised that
they didn't have him make some comment to the 'stem-cell' doctor
about how 'cloning was against nature' or something like that.
Besides, Kerry is going to go to Hell for a lot of reasons...being
gay won't have anything to do with it.
Haleh to Chen "Good for you girl."
Now was that because Chen had just refused to let Kerry
intimidate her over not arriving early or was it because Chen had
forced Kerry to give her her job back?
Which brings up another question. Who in the ER is aware of the
circumstances under which she was rehired? I'm guessing that Chen
proudly told Carter just what she'd done. I'm also guessing that
Mark would have been told. But would it be public knowledge that
she'd used the knowledge about the pager to get back in? Much as
Romano likes to yank peoples chains, I can't see him wanting *that*
sort of information being in the public domain.
Mark "You still owe me $20 for Cleo's going away present."
How can that be? IIRC, Chen quit the episode before Cleo even had
her interview for her new job. Did Mark really put the money in
the kitty for her in the hopes that she would show up some day to
pay him back?
Also, it seems like $20 a pop is a pretty mean amount for a going
away present when you consider that $50 was the required
contribution for Mark and Elizabeth's present when Ella was born.
Abby re Carter's Mom "She's nicer than I remember."
Yeah, cause people tend to be a little icy when you gatecrash a
family funeral and end up in a fit of giggles.
Gallant to Chen "I've heard a lot about you."
Cein "I'll bet!"
Kerry "the last thing I need is a divisive medical staff."
Chen "Then maybe you should quit."
Kerry (should have said) "No, running away when things get
tough is *your* way of handling things, not mine."
Mark "It's probably not a good idea" to let the mother
observe her child in surgery. Because we all know that it's a bad
idea to watch invasive procedures being done on your daughter,
right Mark?
Liked the obvious change in Romano's demeanor and attitude when
he found out that he was talking to another doctor and not just a
'relative'. He obviously finds it easier to deal with people that
he doesn't have to 'dumb it down' to.
Don't you think that somebody would have mentioned the age of the
patient being brought into the ER? Of course, then Mark wouldn't
have had that slow-mo revelation that it was Ella and not Rachel
who had OD'd.
Susan "It is amazing the drugs that kids can get a hold of."
Yeah, and residents as well.
Susan "Oh my God, is that Rachel?"
Easy for her to make that mistake considering she's changed her
appearance so much...she almost looks like a different person ;-)
But was Susan's comment because she hasn't seen Rachel for five
years and hardly recognized her or was she just surprised that
Rachel had turned up at the hospital on her own?
Great make-up job on Alex Kingston.
Mark to Rachel "Are you really *that* stupid?"
Of course she is...she *is* your daughter <g>
I'm sure that Hallee Hirsh is a good actress, but I just found
her "Dad I'm sorry" crying scene totally unconvincing...or
maybe that was the intention.
Almost worth the whole Ella overdose plot to see Mark forcing
himself to say 'Thank you' to Kerry...especially after his
earlier comments about her.
Abby "Hey Gallant...your guy's dead." And she just
walks away and leaves him to deal with it. But of course...she's
off duty and we all know that Abby doesn't do any nursing once
she's clocked out. Hell, I'm surprised that she even took the
time to tell Gallant his patient was dead in Chairs.
Aww...poor Stinky hanging round his dead master.
How can Elizabeth be sitting beside her seriously ill daughter
and *not* be wearing a mask to prevent her being infected?
And what about all the other little kiddies in the PICU who are
in no state to have to deal with catching whatever Elizabeth has?
Elizabeth re Rachel "Did you call the police?" And
naturally Mark hasn't bothered.
And I can't really blame Elizabeth for not wanting to leave the
bedside of her critically ill daughter in order to talk to the
person responsible for putting her there. Plus I doubt if Rachel
wants to hear anything that Elizabeth is likely to say to her at
this stage.
Elizabeth "I don't understand why this has happened?"
Because the writers are trying to throw as much shit as possible
as they can on Mark, and they have a lousy aim.
Award for the Scene/plot which Dave should have had *this* week.
Not an easy one to give out, although I would have loved to see
him chasing Stinky around the place <g>
