Season 8- Episode 11 - Beyond Repair
RTE voiceover "Abby has a few birthday surprises she'd
rather do without and Carter gets a nasty shock. It's a pity you
can't leave your personal life at the door of the Emergency Room"
He was right, it's a pity that most of the characters *don't*
leave their personal life at the door.
Brian "Do you have any jumper cables?"
Abby "No, I take the El."
Either she sold last year's car to pay for cigarettes or she's
just lying so she won't have to help the wife-beating bastard.
Is it just me or was that a weird way to answer a question? I
mean, if she doesn't have a car, why didn't she just say, "No,
I don't have a car."
No Cleo, no Benton in the credits, do I really care? Although we
*did* get that nice shot of Luka running from 'The Crossing'.
So it's common practice for Gamma to promise charities that
she'll attend their functions and then not bother to show?
Mark picking up laundry? Yeah, right...he was snooping.
A disposable cigarette lighter as proof of smoking? I don't think
so. My friends and I used to pick those things up if we saw them
lying around.
And Elizabeth shouldn't have been told about Andrew's positive
drug screen either.
Chen "They won't let me send him any gifts." Hey, it
was *her* decision to give him up.
She should consider herself lucky that they're even sending her
photos and stuff.
Chen "She couldn't answer my page because she didn't have
her pager."
[Insert usual rant in hear about how (a) the *real* Kerry Weaver
would never have left the ER when it was so busy, just so she
could attend to personal business (b) the *real* Kerry Weaver
would have come clean about being out of reach and still defended
both Chen and Malucci, and (c) it shouldn't have made a damned
bit of difference. If Chen was such a good doctor that she got
the Chief Resident's spot, then she shouldn't have needed Kerry
there anyway.]
What the hell is Abby going on about calling Richard 'X' ?
Abby "Is she rich?" Ooh, feeling catty are we today
Abby?
Richard "Always wanted kids...guess we never talked about it."
Ooh, and there's so much more that you guys never talked about.
Abby "Never seen you kiss Frank like that." And can we
have a saucer of milk over here?
And why were Social Services not called immediately for the kid
who's Mom died? Isn't it *their* job to sort out lost kiddies?
Abby could take a few lessons in professional detachment from
Susan.
It doesn't matter *who* the patient is, they have to treat him.
And Sobriki didn't even start getting agitated until Abby started
in with the restraints.
(Naturally there'll be no sign of any official reprimands for her
overstepping her authority, oh no)
Who the hell does Abby think she is anyway? Oh sorry, I forgot...she's
the *heart* of the ER. Easy to tell she's not supposed to be the
brain.
Did Abby *really* think that Carter wouldn't find out that
Sobriki was there? Hello, nurses = gossip, someone was going to
let it slip sooner or later. Which would have been worse, to be
told immediately before he had the chance to bump into the guy,
or to find out a few days later. "Hey guess what, Carter.
Sobriki was here last week!"
But I am soooo impressed with Noah Wyle's reaction to hearing
Sobriki's voice.
The way Abby seems to like making Carter's decisions for him, I'm
surprised she didn't just rip up the letter.
"That's what you do here. You treat the disease so people
can move on with their lives." Yeah, unless you don't like
them, in which case you let them die. *cough*Mark*cough*
If Susan discharged Paul, then why did it take so long to get him
ready to leave? I mean, she had time to get to the hockey game
with Malik.
As for people who criticized her being there at all, I guess the
writers didn't have a choice. There wasn't exactly any other main
character that could have gone to the game with him. Mark was too
busy snooping round Rachel's room. Elizabeth and Romano aren't ER
staff. Abby was too busy getting drunk, Carter was making his Mom
puke, and Luka was out of the country. And of course the idea of
using a second nurse probably never occurred to them.
Heh, just had a thought. It would have been interesting if Yosh
had been with Malik.
And I've decided to start nominating scenes in each episode where
Dave could and should have been used.
This week, he should have been the one at the hockey game with
Malik.
You know, it might have been easier on Douglas having to go with
the social worker if Abby had called them in in the first place
rather than letting him 'bond' with her.
NO. You do *not* search your teenagers room when you know she's
in the house. You show her the lighter and tell her to empty her
pockets/bags/closets etc in front of you. Anything found in
Mark's search is *not* admissible evidence...dammit, I'm watching
waaay too many cop/legal dramas!
And Mark should not have tried to lie his way out of the
situation. Whatever happened to leading by example?
Carter "I'm not going to let you put some revisionist spin
on this."
Yeah, just leave it to TPTB...that's *their* job.
To be honest, I'm not really feeling much sympathy for Carter
these days...or Abby, or Chen, or Mark. Hell, the only person I'm
feeling *any* sympathy for is Kerry...and I hate her. Weird.
Oh come on Abby, I know it's been 6+years, but surely you haven't
forgotten how to hold a beer bottle properly? You do *not* hold
it as if you can't bear the feel of it...unless MT was trying to
imply that Abby was nervous about drinking again after so long...whatever.
It just looked wrong.
Oh, and I can't summon up any sympathy for Joyce either...she
just irritates me.
Weird thing is, when reading the summary's/reviews/comments etc,
I had pictured Joyce as being older than Abby.
Sandy "You need to be out." Why, so you can kiss her in
public? Oh wait, you did that anyway.
And like it or not, it is *Kerry's* decision who she comes out to.
