Season 8- Episode 6 - Supplies and demands

"Now the emergency room's busy at the best of times, but tonight there appears to be no end to the 'Supplies and Demands' on the staff in ER"

Hah, they could use *that* line to describe practically every episode!

Jackie *should* understand Roger a bit more, I mean she knows what it's like to have a child taken away, and regardless of the lack of any blood relationship, Roger *has* been a father figure to Reese for at least the last two years. And to a four year old, that's pretty important.

Didn't I tell you that Rachel would get her hands on a phone? (okay, okay, I'd read the summary of the following episode, but I'd still have been able to predict *that*)

Mark "You're sparkling!"
Is that what it is? I thought Rachel just had greasy skin.

Abby "Might want to call central supply."
Luka "I was going to tell you" (about Nicole being hired)

Why? Abby and Luka aren't together anymore, it's none of *her* business just who Luka wants to help.

Abby "She's *living* with you?"
Luka should have replied "Well yeah. I mean, *you* wouldn't move in and I got kind of lonely once somebody killed my fish."

Peter re the DNR patient "You have to respect her wishes."
What, like you did in 'Rampage'? Or are surgeons exempt from this?

Abby "Rick tried to circumcise himself."
And all the men in the audience find their eyes watering in sympathy.

Ouch, was that *really* Noah Wyle's back that those needles were in?

Just hope 'Stanley' got them all out!

Um, don't give Nicole *all* the blame. Save some for whoever actually hired her and then didn't give her adequate training.

Ewwwee, that hand!

Rachel "She's your kid."
Elizabeth "You're living in my house."
Rachel "Doesn't mean you can tell me what to do."
Elizabeth "Oh yes I bloody well can."

Damn right. This is something that should have been made clear to Rachel from the beginning. Whatever she thinks of Elizabeth ('my dad sure knows how to pick them') the fact is that this is Elizabeth's house as well as Mark's and Rachel ought to treat her with a little more respect.

Abby to Carter "I didn't realize you were a masochist."
Well he must like pain if he was chasing after *you*

Ah, so now it's *Abby* who broke up with Luka.

Mark "She didn't do what she said she was going to do. That's worth a conversation. I'm going to have that with her."
Um, no. She neglected her baby sister when she'd agreed to look after her. That's worth a lecture, and not just from Mark. If Elizabeth wants Rachel to do what *she* tells her to, then she's going to have to become more involved. It's no wonder Rachel isn't listening to Elizabeth. Why should she? I mean it's 'Daddy' who's in charge, right?
Or at least that's the message Mark has been sending loud and clear ever since Rachel turned up and he said that she could stay without even pretending to consult Elizabeth.

Dammit Peter, I always knew you were a selfish bastard.

Was Cleo in the show at all tonight or did I just blink at the wrong time?

It's sort of interesting to contrast the differing behaviors of both the 'stepparents' in this show. On the one hand, we have Roger, who's willing to go to court to fight for the right to see his stepson on a regular basis. And on the other hand, we've got Elizabeth, who seems willing (at this stage anyway) to let Mark be in sole charge of Rachel's well being and discipline. I know it's different circumstances. Reese was clearly a part of Carla's life when Roger appeared on the scene, whereas Elizabeth only met Rachel a handful of times before she and Mark got married, but it's still interesting...or maybe not.

Abby re Luka and Nicole "It just seems like you're going out on a limb for someone you hardly know."

Gee Abby, now that's something *you'd* never do, right?

Mark "We'll lay down the rules for Rachel."
Yeah right.

Okay, don't custody battles on TV usually follow a set format? Good guy and bad guy fighting over a child. Good guy does his best, but eventually loses custody to bad guy (or nearly loses) only to have a last minute piece of evidence/testimony turn the tide so he *does* get custody of the kid. Cue a happy ending.
But ER obviously decided to break this format and make it look as if good guy would actually win for a change, only to have bad (or rather selfish jerk Peter) guy win instead. Whatever.
