Season 8- Episode 5 - Start all over again
RTE announcer "It's Dr. Lewis's first day back but things
don't go too well in the ER"
Gee, I'd never have guessed.
Kerry re Chen's old locker "I'll have them take the name off."
Uh, it didn't look *that* difficult when Dave did it last week.
Why didn't Susan just do it herself?
Susan "Nurse, nurse!"
Abby "you talking to me?"
Um, how else was Susan supposed to attract Abby's attention...throw
an anvil at her? No wait, TPTB are the only ones allowed to throw
anvils around here.
Hey, 'Roger' directed this one!
So, Abby thinks that Susan is 'High-maintenance'. Why? Because
she asked Abby to set up a suture kit, and get a patient a gown?
Um, isn't that part of the nurses job anyway?
Patient to Elizabeth "If I was your mother, would you
operate?"
Elizabeth "Yeah sure, I never liked the old bag anyway."
Okay, okay, I know she didn't *say* it <g>
Okay, so last week I theorized that maybe Romano had had to deal
with a disabled child of his own. Guess I was wrong.
Susan "Put the husband in a quiet room."
Don't think they'll find too many of *those* around County.
Romano "You call Grandma, you call Grandpa, and I'll roll
this guy over so we can kiss his ass goodbye."
Ouch, harsh, but merited.
I know that any parent would be worried at their kid being
missing, but Peter had a responsibility to his patient.
Gamma to Susan "Well, I guess you're only rude to strangers."
Ouch, but hey, Gamma should have said that Carter was her
grandson. I'm sure she's not the first person to turn up and
request a specific doctor. How was Susan to know who she was?
Heck, if I'd been Susan, I'd have just said, "Hey, you
should have mentioned who you were. Do you *know* how many women
we get in here who ask *specifically* for 'Dr. Carter'? Granted
you're a heck of a lot older than most of them, but hey, I always
knew he was into older women."
Continuity error number 1 - When Gamma is removing the monitor
leads and talking to Carter, she's leaning forward in the shots
where we see her face, but when the camera is facing Carter,
Gamma is leaning back against the pillows.
Peter to the police "...get off your ass and do your job..."
Yeah Peter, you tell 'em...and then you can go back into the OR
and do *your* job.
So, two or three weeks ago, Jackie decides that she can't face
looking after Reese. Last week she wouldn't even pick him up from
school when she was asked to, but this week she'll pick him up
when she's not meant to?
I know she's still grieving for her son, but I'd have thought
that she'd have had more sympathy for Roger. Her attitude towards
him seemed to be all "hey, I don't care if you helped raise
him and were part of his life for more than two years. He's not
your blood so you can take a hike buddy." Having lost Jesse,
you'd think she'd appreciate how Roger feels at the thought of
losing Reece.
Continuity error number 2 - To go with the 'disappearing
patient', we have a disappearing chart. Kerry is facing the
camera and has the chart in her hand as she starts to walk around
the desk. Quick cut to the camera behind Kerry as she moves in
front of the desk and there's no chart there.
Carter to Susan "At least you're working among friends."
And it wouldn't be a primetime TV show if Abby hadn't turned up
on cue.
(smirk) Loved Abby's face when she saw Susan and Carter holding
hands.
Naturally Abby blamed *Susan* for the foot on the pedal when the
bed was rising.
So, yet again ER uses the 'Doctor has a really bad day but feels
soooo much better about themselves once they've delivered a baby'
plot. (of course, with Mark they used the 'Doctor has a bad day
but feels a hell of a lot *worse* once he's delivered a baby'
plot)
So, Mark lets his teenage daughter go out for the evening and has
no way of finding her? Smooth Mark...really smooth. With
parenting techniques like this you should write a book, on how *not*
to do it.
And Elizabeth, you were standing right there when Rachel
mentioned the party. Why didn't *you* get the number of the place
she was going to be.
(Of course, we don't even know if that *was* Rachel's friend's
mother on the line anyway)
Heck, this isn't even a case of being a nosy parent. What would
have happened if there'd been an emergency or something and
they'd needed to get in touch with her quickly?
I could go on about how *my* parents never let me go places
without getting a contact number, but most of the time - since we
lived about 8 miles from town - they had to drop me off and/or
collect me, so they'd always know where I was *anyway*.
Mark "I need to know these things."
Rachel "That sounds like something Mom would say."
Ceindreadh "Well yeah, because it's called BEING A
RESPONSIBLE PARENT."
Mark "Don't ever let this happen again, okay?"
Way to go Mark, you really showed her who's the boss.
Rachel asks for a cell phone.
Mark "We'll see."
Rachel smiles because she knows that she's won that round and
she'll have a phone in her hands in no time.
Hey, I guess Gamma was right. Susan's *not* 'only rude to
strangers'.
Jeez Susan, couldn't you at least say sorry to Kerry for (a)
interrupting her call, and (b) assuming that she'd gone behind
your back.
And why the hell was Kerry making the call from the Lounge where
*anyone* could walk in and overhear her?
As for whether it really was her mother or not. I suppose that
the PI dude could have just been scamming for cash. Or it's
possible that the woman was so freaked out by her daughter
finally tracking her down that she panicked and lied.
At first I thought that Elizabeth was being tactful in leaving
Mark and Rachel alone, but now I think that she should have
stayed and been a part of the 'discussion'. Whether Rachel likes
it or not, Elizabeth *is* her father's wife, co-owner of the
house, and as such should be involved in all the 'parental
decisions' that are being made. People have blamed Mark for the
lack of discipline in Rachel's life, but Elizabeth - as co-head
of the household - had both the right and the duty to lay down
ground rules as well.
