Season 8- Episode 4 - Never say never

RTE voiceover "An old face returns to the ER, looking to pick up where she left off...both at work and at play"

Well, it's lucky RTE said that cause otherwise we'd never have known that she was ever there before cause some bloody idiot keeps removing the 'Previously on ER' bits.
My father used to watch the show regularly back in the early days. He happened to catch 'Never say Never' but he told me that he couldn't remember Susan being on the show before. I told him that she wasn't *that* memorable...oh wait, that was just *my* opinion.

RTE have also started putting ratings on their shows. ER is currently rated MA. I'm assuming it means 'Mature Adult'...but then it could just be 'Mighty Awful'.

So, Susan sees Cleo/Abby/Frank/Luka/Yosh before she sees a familiar face. Jeez, wasn't there anyone *else* new that they could have thrown in to those few scenes? I mean, just in case we hadn't quite gotten the message that things have changed around there?

Let's see, Chuny knows that Mark and Susan were sweet on each other, so she comments *in front of Elizabeth* that 'Susan looked good'?

(Any time I hear someone say 'Nicole'; I'm just waiting for her to reply 'Papa?')

So Susan's obviously been in touch with Mark and he never mentioned that Carol had gone to be with Doug? But of course, we don't *know* that it was Carol that the nurses were talking about. Since they NEVER MENTIONED HER NAME! Guess it's the usual 'out of the show, therefore their names can never be mentioned again' syndrome.

Romano "Did you not get the memo?"..... "The one that says I run the place." (smirk)

Kerry "Dr. Chen is my responsibility..." Pity Kerry wasn't there when she was needed to *be* responsible for her.

Kerry "I think we should be trying to protect [Chen]." Oh yeah, unless of course it's a choice between her and you!

Haleh "They [the residents] don't listen to me." Yeah right. I find *that* hard to believe.

(smirk) Chen talking about residents as if there's a whole bunch of them...instead of just Cleo and Carter, and we don't even *know* if Cleo is a resident or not.

Kerry "Nobody's out to get anyone."
Yeah, right.

Abby re Nicole "It doesn't look deep enough for a suture."
Cein "Stuff it Abby. If you wanted to be the one doing the diagnoses, you should have gone back to med school."

Jeez, Abby and Chuny are such a pair of bitches. I'm not surprised at Abby, but I had more respect for Chuny *before* I saw her mocking a patient like that.

Maybe it's because I'm not a lawyer or in risk management, but how could 'Malucci's termination' actually help the hospital?
I mean, if he was fired because he screwed up on the Marfan's case, doesn't that just imply that the hospital are admitting that one of their doctors is at fault and that they're completely liable? If they were saying he was fired because he was a bad doctor all along, then wouldn't the family's lawyer just use that as proof that he shouldn't have been allowed to practice at all? Either way, it seems to open the hospital up to *more* liability, not less.
And if he was fired for 'other reasons', and *not* for anything to do with the case, then how is that going to help anything?
Wouldn't the hospital normally 'close ranks' and wait until *after* the case had been settled before getting rid of him? I mean, whether he's working there are not anymore, they still have to defend him, right?

Kerry "You could have come and get me."
Cein "Duh, that's what pagers are for, so the doctor doesn't have to leave a CRITICALLY ILL PATIENT, just to search all over the hospital and outside for some bloody eejit who can't even keep her pager with her, and doesn't have the goddamned sense to let the *right* people know where she's going to be. How the hell would Chen have *known* to ask Carter where Weaver was? Was she supposed to go round and ask every bloody staff member if they knew where she'd gone?"

Romano "How those parents can keep this kid alive in good conscience is beyond me...ooh, get a shot of that!"
LOL, how is it that Romano gets less screen time than any other character (well, now that Dave is gone - (sobs)), but still manages to grab all the best lines.

Hehehe, all the 'unspoiled' Irish Luby's, are going to be pissed. RTE promo's for this episode showed the bit where Luka told Abby she looked pretty, together with the voiceover '2 lovers reconcile'.

To be fair to Kerry, she *did* try to argue against them bringing up the guide-wire incident again.

Mark "This is a *teaching* hospital."
Kerry "Exactly, and she's the one who was supposed to be doing the teaching."
True. And she wasn't particularly good at it. But then, there don't seem to be many good teachers in the ER.

Romano "You wanna be a parent? Shut up and do your job."
I think I've speculated on this before, but I am convinced that Romano has had personal experience in dealing with a severely disabled kid. Maybe a sibling or a child of his own, but I'm sure he's dealt with the problems before.

Jeez Abby, could you *be* any more smug and condescending with Nicole? (Abby must have been taking 'smirking' lessons from Carter)

Do spiders *really* have that much gunge in them?

Hmm, if I found out that a guy I'd last seen almost 5 years ago had been holding onto an item of *my* clothing all this time, I think I'd be just a little freaked out by it.

Mark "Someone found it a couple of years ago when they moved the laundry...I was gonna send it to you."
Yeah right, he was probably wearing it to bed every night until he met Lizzie.

Mark "I already told Kerry that it was a done deal, so if you pull out now, it would make me look really stupid."
Nah, you're a few seasons too late to avoid looking stupid.

Peter seemed almost surprised that Roger would have missed Reese. I mean, the guy only lived with Carla and Reese for at least TWO YEARS, why the hell would he miss him?

Roger "I can drop him off in the morning."
Peter "No, I'll come by."
Yeah Peter, that's right, how dare Roger even presume to spend a few extra minutes with a kid that he's helped raise for the last few years? Shame on him for even suggesting the idea.

Wah!!!!! I want my Dave to stay!!!!!

And Kerry wouldn't even look him in the eye. And not a twinge of guilt/remorse on her face. Bitch.

I don't sympathize much with Chen. She could have accepted her *deserved* punishment. What did she expect? She didn't follow proper procedures. If she'd been a better doctor/supervisor, then she'd have caught Dave's mistakes. Did she expect that Risk Management would pat her on the head and say "Hey, so what if you screwed up and were responsible for a patient's death? It doesn't matter." Did she really expect to get away without *any* punishment?

Oh, and if anyone's expecting a long rant from me about how much of a bitch Kerry is/was/will be, you'll be disappointed. I just don't give a damn about her any more. She's not worth my time...but then; I could apply that logic to an ever-increasing number of ER characters.

Hmm, was it foreshadowing to have Elizabeth feeling so sorry for the parents trying to cope with a severely disabled child? Anyone wonder *now* if that's where they're going to go with her and Ella?

Chen "Just blame everybody but yourself Kerry." Um no, Chen. That's what *you're* going to do.
