Season 7 - Episode 16 - Witch Hunt

Hmm, the smell of fresh coffee....now <that's> the way to be woken up in the
morning <g>

I really hate people who can be that cheerful first thing.

As I've said before (and will probably say again) why was Mark allowed to
continue working if there were doubts about his competency?

"This 'silly' evaluation will determine whether or not I keep my license."
Yeah, well maybe you should have taken it a bit more seriously then.

Yes I know women should be allowed to work during their pregnancies for as
long as they feel able to, but is standing around in an OR for several hours
at a time really best for the health of either mother or child, especially
when they've already had a near miss?

Interesting the way Abby isn't joining in with Jing-Mei's and Amira's teasing of Carter.

Um Kerry, Kim's a qualified psychiatrist.  If she felt that telling Shannon
that she was gay was the right thing to do, then that was her call.  I don't
remember Kim every suggesting to Kerry that maybe she shouldn't have put in
a chest tube or ordered a particular test.
I don't know the circumstances that led Kim to tell Shannon that she was
gay.  And even if I did, I'm not a psychiatrist, so it's not my call to say
whether she was right or wrong (that's already been well debated over on
a.t.e).  But it's not Kerry's call either.  Her Psychiatry experience is
limited to whatever
she has seen in the ER, plus a Psych rotation from many years earlier.
Kim is a qualified experienced Psychiatrist and Kerry shouldn't be second
guessing her.

They must have cut a line or two of Elizabeth's because I'm sure that she
would have said something like this, "Why thank you Peter for being so
helpful and doing what must have been a lot of extra work for you.  I really
appreciate your help in making sure that nothing was overlooked and in
helping keep things in order.  Thank you."

But no, I guess they didn't.  Dammit Elizabeth couldn't you even say 'thank
you'?  You've been out of work for at least two weeks.  What did you expect,
that everyone would just sit around on their asses until you were fit to
come back?

And another thing.  It seemed to me like nobody was expecting Elizabeth back
at County.  Obviously she never thought to pick up a phone and say 'hi guys
I'll be back at work tomorrow, put me down for an OR at 10."

Dave "They don't go for the Frankenstein look, right Dr. Greene?"
Mark "What's that Dave?"
Dave "Uh, never mind."

I absolutely loved this exchange.  Just the expression on Dave's face as he
realizes what he's said and who he's said it too.  It's one of these scenes
that you don't appreciate half as much when you just read about it.

Romano "And she's never displayed any unacceptable sexual behaviour that
you've witnessed?"

I really would have loved Kerry to reply "No, but I've witnessed her display
a hell of a lot of <acceptable> sexual behaviour.  Why only last night we
took some cheese in a can and......"

Um Abby, why not stay in the room with the baby and listen to Carter there?
I mean the kid's not exactly going to shoot her mouth off.  And you could at
least have kept her in your line of sight.  Or here's a novel idea.  Why not
tell Carter you'll talk to him later when you're not working.  (Okay maybe
she thought he'd taken more pills, but he didn't exactly look that worried)

I would have thought that Abby with her vast experience in OB would have
known better than to leave a baby unattended even for a few minutes.  Even
if she hadn't been kidnapped she could easily have rolled around and fallen
off the end of the bed.

Abby "I should be doing something."
Well if you'd done your job before then the baby wouldn't have been missing.

Hmm, with Kim being accused of sexual harassment, you'd wonder at her
touching anyone that she's talking to, even if they're not technically a
patient.
Of course the only reason to show her with Mrs. Jeffries was so that we
could see that Kim <is> a tactile person and to make us wonder if mabye Kim
gave Shannon a pat on the back or something and Shannon misinterpreted it.

Every time Abby approached her, I was waiting for Mrs Jeffries to start
screaming 'that's the bitch who lost my baby....get her the *&*&**&&&* away
from me'  (okay, I wasn't really cause I'd read a summary of the episode,
but it would have been a hell of a lot more realistic for her to have blown
up at Abby at least once)

"No cure for being a pain in the ass."
Mark was definitely looking at Dave when he said this.

Dave "We'll work something out, right Dr. Greene?"
Mark "Sure."

Now Dave obviously thought that Mark meant. "Sure, we'll work something out.
The kid's father doesn't have to find out about him taking steroids."
But what Mark <really> meant was, "Sure, just say anything you can to get
that beg ape back inside without causing more trouble.  Dammed trouble
making, steroid abusing jerk."

*cough*tumour*cough*
childish, insensitive, offensive, but typical Dave 'act first think later'
Malucci

"Maybe there's something to this competency stuff."  Ouch, that had to hurt.

Another few lines that must have been cut.
Carter. "Wow Abby, I'm sorry that I dragged you away from your
responsibilities just so I could brag to you about my teenage girlfriend.  I
mean, this wasn't like the Vicodin, I could easily have waited until your
break to tell you.  I'm really sorry."

So Abby is fine with the idea of Carter dating someone until she finds out
her age?

Mark didn't even ask Dave what had happened between him and James father.
If that had been Carter, Mark would have gotten his side of the story as
well.  And unless there was a scene somewhere that we missed he suspended
Dave without giving him a chance to defend himself.

Nice head butt, though.
I suppose Dave <could> have called for security when the guy had him backed
up against the wall, but then he's always struck me as the kind of guy who
prefers to fight his own battles.

Ouch.  I pity that patient that Abby was trying to find a vein on.

Anybody else reminded of an episode last year when Carol was trying to run
the trauma on the girl who had OD'd ?

I like the way Dave asks automatically. "Does Weaver know about this?"

A new addition to my 'scenes I wish they'd filmed' list.
Kerry's reaction when she finds out that Mark suspended Dave for the week
without consulting her.

If the results of Mark's comptency tests came 'for him', why does Kerry have
it?  Surely it would have been sent directly to him with a CC to his boss?

And how difficult would it have been for Kerry to give the envelope to Amira
to pass on to Mark, or even just to slip the envelope into his mailbox?
(I'm assuming that he has a mailslot in the ER cause Carol had one last
year...she just didn't check it)

Shouldn't the head of the Psychiatric department be involved in any
disciplinary hearing involving a member of his staff?  Especially if they're
judging whether Kim was right to tell Shannon that she was gay?

"Please remind me never to ask you to testify on my behalf."
Don't usually agree with Romano, but oh yeah.

Could Kerry have been any less convincing?

Abby(on finding out Rena's age) "Did you break up with her?"
Um, why should he?  Yes, I know the AA programme doesn't approve of starting
new relationships in the first 12 months, but Abby didn't seem to have a
problem until she found out Rena's age.

I think Mark and Dave both jumped to conclusions about James.
Mark that he was using steroids and Dave that he was being abused.  So why
didn't Dave follow his own advice and simply ask James?
Then if he'd said yes (even if he was lying) Mark would have had to take
Dave seriously.

And I didn't like the way that Mark simply dismissed Dave's initial hunch
about the kid being abused.
"Abuse?  He's built like a tank."  (or something like that)
