Season 7 - Episode 15 - The Crossing
So we have a really serious/poignant scene with Luka and the
Bishop....and
all I can think when he says 'it's 11.30' is 'Diet Coke break
anyone?'
(yeah, I'm sick and twisted, okay.)
Question. You have a doctor who's recently undergone brain
surgery. You're
worried about his competency, so much so that you've arranged for
him to be
evaluated by someone from the Illinois Department of Professional
Regulation. They in turn are concerned enough to send him
for formal
competency testing. So, just to be on the safe side you
send him home and
don't let him treat any patients until he's given the all-clear.
Right? I
mean, you wouldn't like to expose the hospital to any liability
if he <was>
incompetent and screwed up with a patient, right?
Answer. Of course not, this is ER....and it can't be ER if
Dr. Greene isn't
around, duh.
Question 2. You have a train wreck with loads of casualties.
Many of whom
are probably trapped in awkward locations which may necessitate
climbing on
top of trains and scrambling into tight spaces in order to treat
them.
Which of your surgeon's do you send?
Answer 2. You send the one who's least likely to be able to
do any climbing
of course.
I know, I know, she's pregnant and not sick...she's able to do
her
duties....she'd have probably gone into premature labour anyway,
regardless
of whether she'd been in a helicopter or slipped on muddy ground.
I'm not
disputing that. And if Elizabeth hadn't been pregnant, I
wouldn't have had
a problem with her going. But suppose Luka's patient (the
kid trapped in
the wreckage) had needed a surgeon? Hand's up anyone who
thinks Elizabeth
would have been able to climb on top of the train to get in close
enough.
It would have been so easy for them to put in a scene where
Elizabeth
insists on going to the accident site.
Loved Peter's line to William 'don't be surprised if the nurses
push you out
of the way. It's their job...just try not to knock anything
over.'
Mmm, William is very cute BTW
If I were being tested to see if I was competent to do my job....and
I knew
that failure would mean the end of my chosen career. I
think I'd be taking
it a little bit more seriously than Mark was. (At least
when he was face to
face with the tester)
Interesting to see Peter and Luka arguing again over who's
patient gets to
go first....glad this time there was a more successful outcome
for both
patients.
And while we're on the subject, surely a place like County has
more than one
elevator?
I couldn't help but contrast Kerry and Kim parting for the
evening with Abby
and Luka.
Kerry 'I'll try to be quiet."
Kim 'No...wake me.'
Definitely if ER goes on long enough, I think Jing-Mei is a
definite
candidate for Kerry's job....at least based on what we saw today.
And before anyone who has seen season 8
speaks up, yes I know what happened then, dammit.
grrr. I've been wracking my brains and I can't think of one
comment about
Dave. It's not fair......
