| All that was said, not to criticize the film, but to emphasize that this IS a fairy tale and can be enjoyed as such. The costumes only enhance the enjoyment of this movie. Jenny Beavens costuming is just wonderful. The garments are beautiful, the detailing is lovely, the fabrics make you want to reach out and touch them. Or better yet, check them out to see how they are made. Danielles costumes effectively change her, by turns, from a servant, a courtier & a vision of loveliness in her ball gown. Each character in the movie is dressed in a manner that helps convey who they are. Some of the most interesting are the costumes of Danielles stepmother, Rodmilla. Her garments always show her as the wealthy lady she wants to be, and the variety of headdress she wears is sometimes amusing. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| A search of what people wore in this time period shows garments much like those in the movie. One example is in Period Patterns # 41, right, which shows 8 ladies garments that are very much like the gowns worn in Ever After. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In this time period, moderate use of SLASHING. Extensive use of lacing to hold sleeves on/ together and to close doublets etc. WOMEN GOWNS: fitted, high waist bodice, full long skirts. A-line, worn open or close CF. Sleeves are fitted, extensively tied, CHEMISE showing through. Hair/ Headdresses: small veils and kerchiefs for older women and servants. Younger women wear complex styles of wrapped tresses, braids, ropes of pearls, and ribbons, close to the head. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| A close look at the costumes of Ever After show all of these features. It was the costumes along with the gorgeous cinematography that made the story so vivid. Because of this attention to detail as well as using the costumes to portray who the characters are, I thought the costumes were eminently successful as an integral and not unnecessarily distracting to this movie. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
