Birds of a feather

The Falcon Returns

"Zeus?" Camille looked oddly at this bird paying just to much attention to its surroundings. She barely saw it, it was sort of faded out, even now that she was closer. She had never been much of a tree climber but this was just too curious. Ever since her run in with the illusionary Ravnos years ago she had been getting into the habit of using her auspex enhanced sight to see on a regular basis.

"Zeus? Are you Zeus, Zodiax's falcon?" She asked like its reply would make sense to her if she even got one. The bird looked at her and cocked its head sort of funny and scratched twice the branch they were both standing on.

"Oooo, does that mean yes?"

Again the bird scratched twice.

"Hey, you can understand what I said? You know Latin?"

Two scratches.

"Wow! You're pretty smart aren't you bird?"

Two scratches.

Then it hit her, if she was only asking questions that would be positive for a yes and this bird scratched twice for anything, then it was always right. All right then, a different avenue was in order.

"Can you answer anything other than yes?"

Two scratches.

"Are you understanding what I am saying?"

Two scratches

"Oh, I already asked that one, can you..." Oops she thought, still on the yes only questions. Hmmm, something different.

"How did you get here?"

If birds were capable of expressions, and Zeus was about as close as one could get, he would have given her a look that would have clearly stated "For the love of GOD lady, ask a yes or no question, preferably NO!"

"The sky is quite orange tonight isn't it?" She pointed at the pitch black over their heads grinning.

One Scratch

Giddy, she clapped her little hands together and beamed a smile that, except for the fangs, could woo the hearts of many men. Zeus, irritated and a bird, just rolled his eyes back in a very human gesture. The things he wouldn't do for blood now that Zodiax was gone.

"Come on Zeus, I have others for you to meet tonight." With that she dropped the 30 feet to the ground and headed towards Mondrake keep.

An easy flap of his wings and he was right behind her. His life had taken many strange turns since his birth at Prince Yolner's palace. He was still only slightly smarter than a young child but he had been doing it for a long time. Maybe with this vampire he could do it for a while longer.
