Lessons learned this Easter weekend:

1) Travelling goes faster if you play lots of music you like.  This seems like a pretty obvious truism, but I've never before practiced it to the extent I did this time.  Seven casette tapes took me 790 kms in nine hours.  I thought this would be a pretty lonely trip, being it's the first time I've made it alone, but with my old friends (tunes) along, it was quick and painless in both directions.  Also learned that some of the music I used to love ten years ago I don't even recognize today until I look to see what casette I'm putting in, or I don't especially like anymore, or I like a lot better than I used to.

2) I'm getting the hang of this baby thing.  My niece isn't yet a year old and I'm already pretty comfortable with the cootchy-coo stuff.  I have, however, succeeded in staying clear of the diaper changes and any other shocks of baby-related-reality; however this is still a big step for 'he who thought all babies were rather disgusting'.  I received a second dose of it when I got in a two hour visit with my friend from the States and his newborn son, including a holding session where he went to sleep in my arms.  Awwwww....

3) My new policy about accepting socializing invitations is paying off.  A cousin and his girlfriend invited me out on the town so I took the big step of saying yes, although plans were changed afterward and we visited her sister instead.  However, this still constitutes a social occasion since we were not the only guests and was even made more comfortable for me by turning into a card-game session. For once I didn't care how miserably I lost, I was just enjoying the fact I was there.  I also learned a thing or two about hosting by observing said sister, who did a fantastic job of plying us with various foodstuffs over our repeated protestations, nontheless all of which was entirely consumed.  I also learned I should probably go for the pairs rather than runs when playing Kings, and keep track of which cards are wild in which hand.  Did I say I didn't care I lost?

4) Too much cranberry juice is bad for my digestive system.

[ I seem to have deleted my March 27th entry by accident, hope it wasn't anything cool. ]
