The writing of Andrew B. Golay

I'm hungry, and I have to use the bathroom.
I won't do it, because I want to write.
My stomach is eating itself, and my kidneys...
a balloon will soon burst inside them.

But now is not the time to eat or to go.
Now is the time to write. Right?
Now is the time to write and toil,
upward in the night.
Isn't it?

Now it must be do or die,
But it feels more like die.
My fingers lost their sense of touch
and I fumble for the space bar.

Maybe a little boost in blood sugar would help.
And sitting like this is not helping my blood flow.
To take a little break for necesities...
might be necessary.

Maybe.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I used to be creative
but now I'm just a slave.

I used to think that I was strong
but now I simply cave.

I used to think they were something -
all the things I gave;

I used to walk the road of life
but now I have been paved.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
There once was an addict from Rome
who gave up his wife and his home.
He blew lines all day,
threw his life away,
and out of his mouth came white foam.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Who sees the way I do?
Whithered cheeks and a scattered mind,
speaking through an unsure tongue
I communicate, yet do I say what is meant,
or what is interpreted by others?

Control is lost
to the controllers,
with their intent being entertainment.
Difficult to ascertain
if withered cheeks and a scattered brain
is a cure for my disease.

Cravaing of an unparalled degree
molests my heart,
shackles my brain,
siezes my feet and hands,
and wraps me up in a knot.

This knot, which grabs others
but they undo,
Subdues me.
---------------------------------------------------------
What leads my way in life?
"I do" is the simple, shallow, response.

Is the real answer brain food,
or brain poison?
I have allowed myself to be imprisoned
for the sake of drinking poison.

What do the ducks do when the old man is gone?
Onward in search of food, they go,
in search of food, but the sewage drain
appeals to their tastes.
So they drink.

And I return to the sewage;
it scream my name.
Subdued again, by so-called friends,
or so I think,
again I use.
