| Shakira- Laundry Service by- Shakira year- 2001 stars- **** Oh my GAWD!*insert coffee talk accent* It's like butta! *AHEM* This cd is excellent. I waited for 2 long years for her english release and it's nothing short of brilliant. She even included the translated version to my absolute favorite song by her" Ojos Asi" aka " Eyes like yours." Now I'm going to talk about that song for a moment because I'm a we bit obsessed ..but I have good reason. When a song is usually brought into english or spanish or plain ol translated into another language- the meaning is lost. They'll keep the same music and it will rhyme..somehow..but the meaning is gone. This song is one of the few I've heard that keeps the meaning. You see, "Ojos Asi" is a song about obsession..in a way. She's looking for a person with black eyes and she can't find them so she travels all over..like a big ol epic quest. "Eyes like yours" captures that "desire" if you will and even most of the spanish-english translation. For example the second spanish verse "un rio di sal" and in english it matches perfectly " a river of salt." Just for that song alone the cd deserves many many grammy awards. She also broke away from her "folk rock chick" persona in this cd, expermenting with some pop (but not too much). Her ballads in english,however, aren't my favorite thing..but other than that I love this cd. Also the video for " whenever, wherever" is VERY easy on the eyes. (mud never looked that good) *slaps self* fave songs- EYES LIKE YOURS, Tango least fave- the one buy it here ------- Claudia Christian- Once upon a time written/produced by- Claudia and others year- 2001 stars- ***** Question- what happens when you cross an erotic Enya with a guitar? Answer- Claudia Christians' new cd. I recently became a fan of this actress and decided, what the hell I'll buy her new cd. I'm a big fan of Xena, so when I heard 2 of my fave actresses from that show would be helping Claudia with her "Taboo" video..it got my attention. Thus I downloaded "Taboo." Let me say...I LOVE that song. Yeah ok so it's sorta kinky but the music is great..even a bit haunting. Thus I got my lil butt over to her site and ordered the video(regular version) and cd. It's awesome. Her voice is excellent and her musical styles range from rock to jazz to..err..whatever you would classify " Taboo." However, if you the type of person who is not comfy with a chick singing about another chick..this is a warning. You may feel uncomfortable. Two of her songs have some mighty big SUBTEXT in them. If that's going to stop you from buying the cd...ur a loozer. Fave songs- Taboo, Once upon a time, Morning can Wait Least fave- love can last buy it here ----- Many more coming soon..like as soon as I get them for Christmas. |
